Accountabilities
- Provide strategic communications expertise to partners and internal teams, helping design and execute narrative strategies, storytelling initiatives, and advocacy communications efforts.
- This role requires strong project management skills, creativity, and the ability to translate complex issues into clear, compelling communications.
- Partner with state and community organizations to design communications strategies aligned with policy, advocacy, and campaign objectives.
- Develop narrative frameworks, messaging strategies, and communication approaches that support community priorities and long-term change.
- Provide hands-on communications guidance to partners, supporting planning, execution, and adaptation of strategic initiatives.
- Translate complex health policy, healthcare systems, and safety-net program topics into accessible communications for public, patient, and advocacy audiences.
- Support ethical storytelling initiatives by collecting and integrating lived experiences with research, data, and policy insights.
- Develop and support earned media strategies, digital campaigns, written content, and creative assets.
- Collaborate with internal communications teams and external vendors to ensure quality, consistency, and timely delivery.
- Manage multiple technical assistance engagements while maintaining alignment with strategic priorities and grant requirements.
- Track communications outcomes, analyze performance indicators, and use insights to improve future strategies.
- Document learnings and contribute to broader organizational knowledge around effective communications support.
- Build strong relationships with partners, funders, policymakers, and community stakeholders.
Requirements
- The ideal candidate brings extensive communications experience within advocacy, campaigns, healthcare, or mission-driven organizations.
- They should be skilled at developing strategic narratives, managing complex projects, and collaborating with diverse stakeholders.
- 6+ years of experience in advocacy communications, campaign communications, public affairs, or communications agency environments.
- Demonstrated experience supporting campaigns, coalitions, or partners through outcome-focused communications initiatives.
- Proven experience developing earned media strategies, including reporter relationships and opinion piece placement.
- Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills with the ability to create compelling content for multiple audiences.
- Experience conducting interviews and developing content strategies that transform complex information into engaging narratives.
- Experience measuring communications impact, tracking outcomes, and reporting against strategic goals or grant requirements.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in fast-paced environments.
- Knowledge of accessibility standards, including Section 508 compliance and plain language communication practices.
- Experience using accessibility testing tools such as Adobe Acrobat Accessibility Checker, Microsoft Accessibility Checker, or similar platforms.
- Able to work independently while collaborating effectively across teams and partner organizations.
- Strong alignment with health justice, racial equity, and community-led approaches to systems change.
- Experience communicating complex healthcare topics such as Medicaid, medical debt, caregiver policy, or related public health issues.
- Familiarity with digital communications, design tools, advocacy platforms, media monitoring systems, or campaign technologies is a plus.
