Senior Commissioning Engineer I
Overview
Merrick is seeking a Senior Commissioning Engineer I to join their High Performance Facilities Commissioning team.
About the Role
Coordinate, perform and oversee detailed field commissioning services, assessments, and studies for various facility/systems including laboratories, nuclear spaces, hospitals, clean rooms, HVAC (air and hydronic), controls, plumbing, laboratory equipment, fire protection, security, and electrical systems.
Responsibilities
- Generate commissioning plans; write commissioning specifications; develop commissioning installation checklists and functional test procedures;
- Verify and validate commissioned systems controls and equipment;
- Document commissioning process, develop final commissioning report, and develop systems manuals.
Requirements
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering OR a 2-Year Technical Associates Degree from an accredited institution with practical commissioning, controls, or testing experience.
- Twelve (12) years or more experience in the commissioning of these systems: HVAC (air and hydronic), controls, plumbing, laboratory equipment, fire protection, security, and/or electrical systems.
- Demonstrated Project Management experience.
- Optional experience in the commissioning of bio-containment laboratory facilities (BSL3, BSL3Ag, BSL4); other types of high-tech, mission-critical facilities; HVAC controls systems and protocols (e.g. JCI, Siemens, ALC, BACnet, Modbus, etc); LEED/Green Globes/Guiding Principles Compliance; PE, BCxP, CxA, LEED AP.
- U.S. Citizenship; valid driver's license, good driving record, insurable under Merrick’s insurance carrier; frequent travel to project/client locations required with possible international travel.

- Have the ability to generate accurate, detailed reports; read and understand building drawings, specifications, and submittals; and have knowledge of controls systems and control sequences.
- Be proficient in the use of computers and Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Power Point); familiarity with AutoCad and/or Revit considered an asset.
- Possess, or be able to obtain, a US security clearance; achieve commissioning certification under ASHRAE, ACG and/or BCA within the first three years of engagement.

- Able to climb ladders.
- Mobile crawling in and around mechanical space with piping and ductwork.
- Ability to carry test instruments and equipment.

- The job requires the ability to sit for extended periods at a computer workstation.
- The job requires the ability to perform work in a laboratory environment.
