About the role
The Head Accountant is responsible for the overall financial operations of multiple commercial real estate entities and properties. The successful candidate will ensure timely and accurate financial reporting, maintain compliance with GAAP, supervise accounting staff, strengthen internal controls, and continually improve accounting processes.
Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop a small accounting team.
- Oversee all accounting operations for commercial real estate entities and properties.
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Manage month-end and year-end closing processes.
- Oversee the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, and bank reconciliations.
- Prepare budgets, financial reports, and cash flow projections.
- Review CAM reconciliations, lease accounting, tenant billings, and property operating statements.
- Cook up with outside CPAs, lenders, auditors, and ownership.
- Establish and maintain strong internal controls and accounting procedures.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency through technology and process improvements.
- Aid ownership with financial planning, reporting, and strategic decision-making.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is a plus.
- CPA designation is a plus.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 5 years in an accounting leadership role.
- Significant commercial real estate accounting experience is required.
- Thorough understanding of GAAP and commercial real estate financial reporting.
- Extensive experience with commercial real estate accounting software platforms. Yardi Voyager commercial module experience is required.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
