About the role

This is a Department Promotional only recruitment being conducted to fill a current full-time vacancy in the Community Services Department. The list established from this recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the more complex code enforcement cases
  • Provides lead direction to staff responsible for code enforcement duties
  • Performs related work as required

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Five years of full-time experience performing investigative work which included enforcing established laws, codes or regulations such as building, fire, license, nuisance, penal, vehicle or zoning codes;
  • OR three years of full-time experience equivalent to a Code Enforcement Officer II within Washoe County;
  • OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.

License or Certificate

Must possess certification as a Code Enforcement Officer from a recognized State or National Code Enforcement Organization or Association or equivalent within eighteen months of appointment and must be maintained for continued employment in this classification.

Conditions of Employment

The Washoe County Employees Association (WCEA) Non-Supervisory Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) covers the Senior Code Enforcement Officer position.

Pay

Effective January 1, 2025, the $39.00 fee associated with this background investigation will be paid by the employee (if applicable) and deducted automatically from the first paycheck.

Schedule

Washoe County hires all new employees at the minimum rate of the salary range and eligible employees may receive an annual merit increase of 5% until they reach the maximum salary for the classification. Upon promotion, current Washoe County employees are placed at the minimum rate of the salary range for the higher classification of the new position OR a promotional calculation, whichever is greater.
