About the role
The Senior Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as an experienced caregiver to residents during the scheduled work period in long-term care. Demonstrates expert-level experience as a certified nursing assistant and assists other staff as needed. Provides resident-centered nursing care and daily living assistance under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN).
Responsibilities
- Deliver age-appropriate care related to the physical and psychological needs of residents as per care plan.
- Follow infection prevention and control policies and use Personal Protective Equipment.
- Assist with basic health care needs, including bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing/undressing, and obtaining and recording vital signs.
- Provide psychosocial support and other personal care to assigned residents.
- Assist residents in transferring, repositioning, and walking using correct techniques and equipment; provide range-of-motion and passive exercises.
- Complete tasks related to food preparation and dining, creating a positive dining experience.
- Assist residents with meals and snacks; provide water and supplements as appropriate.
- Aid providers and nursing staff with procedures as needed.
- Document resident interactions, care outcomes, behavior, activity, and dietary information.
- Communicate residents' changing conditions and care-related concerns to the charge nurse.
- Collect non-invasive body fluid specimens and gather vital signs.
- Provide housekeeping and laundry services to assist residents with clean living areas.
- Assist with wellness and recreational programs, encouraging resident participation.
- May participate in departmental or organizational committees and task forces.
- Complete tasks related to the Restorative Nursing program, including documentation, scheduling, and leading restorative programs.
Requirements
- High school graduate or GED preferred, but not required.
- Minimum age of 16.
- Two years' clinical or nursing assistant experience in long-term care preferred.
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification with the State Board of Nursing required.
- Satisfactorily complete yearly department-specific competency testing and maintain continuing education credits (minimum 12 hours annually).
- Maintain all department-specific required certifications.
- May be required to complete Restorative Nursing training within 6 months.
- When applicable, certified and registered with the Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry.
- May require a motor vehicle report and proof of valid driver’s license if the role classifies as a Sanford Category II Driver; must be medically qualified to perform essential driving functions per Sanford Driving Policy.
