About the role
The MDS Teams are responsible for the effective implementation, optimization, maintenance, and support of Clinical Systems that integrate with Epic System applications at Penn Medicine. The Associate Clinical Systems Analyst, Clinical Systems Analyst, and Senior Clinical Systems Analyst positions are responsible for analyzing, implementing, supporting, and maintaining clinical information systems within the Penn Medicine Health System. These roles work closely with healthcare professionals, IT teams, and vendors to ensure the effective utilization of clinical systems to support patient care and improve operational efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Configure and customize clinical systems, perform system testing, and provide end-user training and support including developing, planning, and executing testing for supported applications
- Perform analysis, troubleshooting, and problem solving of simple to complex issues at the technical, interface, and application levels
- Identify root-cause, recommend, test, and implement changes
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as Epic technical support teams, vendors, and other IS Application teams as needed to address complex technical issues maintaining compliance with regulatory standards such as HIPAA
- Understand integration between various applications and functionality within those applications
- Implement and facilitate scheduled vendor releases, system upgrades, system enhancements, and resolve system defects
- Provide customer service and act as a liaison between the clinical departments and Information Services. Communicate problems, issues, and potential solutions to team members, clients, and organizational administration. Escalate complex issues as necessary
- Clearly define and articulate to operational stakeholders workflow changes that are offered with software/hardware upgrades and best practice solutions as recommended by the vendor
- Aid in defining and documenting user requirements and system scope. Review and collect information regarding potential system enhancements. Maintain thorough documentation of configurations, customizations, and support processes for assigned applications
- Comply with all applicable guidelines, policies, and procedures of Penn Medicine to ensure necessary controls, documentation, and audit trails
- Perform duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures. Ensure system changes follow change management procedures and protocols

- Demonstrated success in applying Project Management disciplines in a complex Information Systems environment
- Develop and foster key relationships with site/entity senior stakeholders, and is viewed as a trusted IS leader and partner
- Demonstrated success in coordinating the activities and deliverables of mid-large sized project teams from various areas of an organization
- Demonstrate a strong knowledge of healthcare business operations and the associated technology solutions to support the business
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with a variety of personal skill sets
- Effective communication skills in various methods, verbal, written, and presentations
- Able to understand and effectively navigate matrixed organizational structures and culture
- Strong analytical skills, specifically with business and functional requirements development
- Solid understanding of Information Systems infrastructure and application capabilities
