About the Role

The Senior Claims Specialist will join the Environmental Claims Team, handling a diverse range of claims including first- and third-party environmental liability, professional liability from the construction industry, general liability, excess claims, and more. This role involves managing complex claims such as contractors’ professional liability, design-related claims, mold, toxic tort, long-tail environmental exposures, and first-party pollution cleanup claims.

Responsibilities

• End-to-end management and direct handling of primary and excess liability claims according to policy coverage and state requirements.
• Identify, evaluate, and analyze coverage issues; prepare comprehensive coverage letters for directly handled claims.
• Analyze construction contracts, professional services agreements, and environmental indemnity provisions to determine coverage, defense, and recovery strategies.
• Manage complex, litigated claims involving multiple parties, experts (environmental, engineering, construction), and layered insurance programs.
• Work closely with outside counsel to ensure cost-effective and appropriate litigation management strategies for optimal outcomes.
• Maintain proactive oversight and/or supervision of retained outside vendors and their billing practices.
• Proactively negotiate settlement of claims within designated authority level.
• Present to internal business partners and external clients regarding severity and trends of environmental claims.
• Participate in mediations, arbitrations, trials, and other claim meetings as needed.
• Collaborate with Underwriting, including attending broker/client meetings.
• Maintain required insurance adjuster licenses.
• Travel as required.

Requirements

• A minimum of 4 years of casualty claims experience handling both environmental liability and construction professional liability claims.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple client projects simultaneously.
• Demonstrated ability to work on a team, meet deadlines, and adapt to a changing work environment.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and experience with multiple claims platforms.
• Excellent interpersonal communication and negotiation skills.
• Strong skills in evaluating high-exposure and complex claims.
• High degree of collaboration, partnership, and influencing skills.
• Must hold multiple adjusters’ licenses or be willing to obtain them as needed.
• Juris Doctorate Degree preferred but not required.
• Bachelor’s Degree required.
• Availability for occasional travel.

Pay

The annualized base pay range for this role is $130,000 - $160,000. Actual base pay may vary based on factors such as experience, expertise, and skills. This range is one component of Ascot’s total compensation package, which may also include annual cash bonuses and other discretionary rewards.
