About the role

The Senior Claims Specialist will report directly to the Director of Risk Management. This role oversees and monitors the timely response and proper handling of General Liability, Auto and Property claims on behalf of Superior Grocers. Additionally, the position ensures attendance at Small Claims court matters as required. The Senior Claims Specialist will have autonomy and authority to make settlement decisions within a predetermined range.

Responsibilities

  • Respond and investigate incoming claims promptly and thoroughly
  • Conduct telephone and on-site investigations
  • Interview employees and customers
  • Make referrals to external vendors
  • Oversee new and existing customer-related claims
  • Complete Accident Reports and related documentation in a timely, thorough, and objective manner
  • Communicate and provide necessary documentation to insurance companies, TPA, defense counsel, and corporate office staff as instructed
  • Display and communicate an understanding of insurance concepts, internal practices, and procedures
  • Log and report new claims to the insurance carrier, guided by the Director of Risk Management
  • Manage legacy customer claims continuously and ensure timely updates
  • Utilize TPA website/database or internal tracking systems to review and monitor claims handled by outside adjusters
  • Review and approve claim statuses, reserve changes, and maintain communication with adjusters
  • Communicate with adjusters and attorneys as needed
  • Prepare and present monthly status reports to the Director of Risk Management
  • Coordinate employee recorded statements and internal/external investigations
  • Provide porter training and inspect sweep compliance
  • Maintain and update the Insurance Certificate Program
  • Handle new vendor applications and insurance needs
  • Perform monthly store inspections and generate monthly reports on customer claims
  • Analyze reports and recommend preventative measures to store management
  • Review and present monthly billing to the Director of Risk Management
  • Generate quarterly reports and assist with insurance renewals
  • Assist with administrative tasks as necessary

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business is preferred
  • Attend insurance seminars and classes focusing on insurance concepts, including premises liability and related torts
  • At least 5 years of relevant work experience
  • Knowledgeable working knowledge of Excel and Word

Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Bilingual (Spanish and English) helpful, but not mandatory

Pay

$80,000 - $95,000 annually
