Description
- Lead projects and/or perform daily construction inspection on WisDOT highway and bridge projects, ensuring contractor compliance with project plans, specifications, and standards.
- Document field activities, track quantities, and prepare daily inspection reports using WisDOT-approved systems (e.g., AASHTOWare Project).
- Conduct or observe field testing of materials (concrete, asphalt, soils, aggregates) in accordance with WisDOT requirements.
- Communicate and coordinate with project engineers, contractors, and WisDOT staff to address issues in the field.
- Perform or support team with project documentation, pay estimates, and plan interpretation.
- Assist with traffic control checks, erosion control monitoring, and safety compliance.
Qualifications
- Education & Experience:
- Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology or related field
- 6-15+ years of experience in roadway or bridge construction inspection
- Familiarity with WisDOT specifications, standards, and documentation procedures (preferred)
- Technical Knowledge:
- WisDOT HTCP certifications (Aggregates, Concrete, Asphalt, Density) strongly preferred; ability to obtain if not already certified.
- Professional Skills:
- Effective conflict resolution and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong oral and written communication skills to work effectively in the field with contractors, WisDOT, and project teams.
- Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills.
- Computer literacy, including use of relevant communication and file organization software.
- Interpersonal & Leadership Skills:
- Strong interpersonal skills for engaging with team members & clients.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Other:
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Authorization to work in the United States for any employer.
- Ability to lift at least 25lbs.
- Prolonged periods on construction sites in all-season weather conditions
- Excessive standing or walking on uneven terrain
- Pushing, pulling, and lifting of equipment or materials
- Use of a keyboard
- On construction sites, in field offices, and corporate office environments as needed
- Occasional travel required for meetings, training, and events
