Senior Civil Engineer/Project Manager - Federal
About the role
Huitt-Zollars, Inc has a full-time opportunity for a Senior Civil Engineer for our San Diego office with at least 10 years of engineering design experience with Federal, Institutional, Public Works clients. Must be a registered California Professional Engineer.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a Lead Civil Engineer within the Federal practice with Institutional and Public Works experience in the development of design schematics, construction plans, specifications and estimates.
- Cover site visits and document findings.
- Create materials for presentations, GIS exhibits, and preliminary engineering reports.
- Research jurisdictional requirements for incorporation into design and construction drawings.
- Coordinate and manage production of EITs, designers, and drafters.
- Work directly with clients and direct staff with varying levels of experience and expertise.
- Prepare proposal/contracts, project work plans, and schedules.
- Create and produce design and construction drawings using Autodesk products and information obtained from research activities.
- Review shop drawings, perform field observations, and facilitate construction administration.
- Manage project close-out efforts.
- Support client management and marketing efforts for future work.
- Train plan production staff and review work for quality assurance.
- Proactively communicate with clients, addressing or expediting client issues to discipline leads.
- Develop and maintain relationships with clients and teaming partners for ease in communications and problem-solving.
- Competent, knowledgeable, and service-oriented leader in the markets they serve.
- Follow Huitt-Zollars' business processes and quality initiatives.
- Ensure adherence to quality control measures on projects and daily operations.
- Contribute to successful project delivery and performance.
- Complete assignments on time, within budget, and with the highest level of quality.
- Promote and propose more effective ways to accomplish tasks.
- Supplement Project Managers as needed on work planning. Prepare and follow comprehensive Project Framework Instructions and proper work planning for a project. Ensure proper staff is assigned and utilized on their projects.
- Proactively work with Project Managers to strategize resolving issues that impact project performance. Review progress with PM at least monthly (including & completing vs. % spent) and that PM is adhering to weekly rhythms.
- Successfully contribute to the overall profitability and financial performance on projects.
- Oversee staff deliverables and production assigned to their projects to ensure client, legal, and company requirements are met.
- Troubleshoot issues and recommend solutions, effectively implement and document for internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering.
- Must be a Licensed Engineer (P.E.).
- Minimum 10 years of experience.
- Experience with Department of Defense criteria/systems to include Unified Facilities Criteria, SpecsIntact, ProjNet, Dr. Checks.
- Experience with producing accurate and complete construction plans and reports.
- Ability to work independently in a team environment and manage multiple projects with limited supervision under the direction of a principal/officer of the company.
- Excellent verbal and written skills, communicating technical information clearly and concisely.
- Solid leadership and management skills, self-motivated, and possess a strong ability to meet deadlines, satisfy clients, and solve complex problems.
- Proficient in MicroStation, AutoCAD, and Civil 3D.
- Proficient in Blue Beam, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Project.
