Senior Civil Engineer

Responsibilities

• Produce quality civil engineering design services conforming to applicable design standards, guidelines and codes.
• Create contract documents consisting of drawings, technical specifications and construction cost estimates.
• Prepare biddable and constructible contract drawings meeting the scope.
• Develop the civil engineering scope of work and budget for projects or studies.
• Provide guidance and direction to junior staff in engineering design approach and civil infrastructure.
• Perform site inspections at the Agency’s facilities.
• Develop RFP scope of work and independent staff cost estimate for professional Engineering services to be performed by a consultant.
• Develop preliminary conceptual design work and planning for Capital Projects and Major Work Programs.
• Provide the client departments with design alternatives and associated costs, for future planning and funding of projects.
• Serve as technical lead on assigned projects.
• Oversee design team including consultant engineers, junior engineers and CAD personnel in the preparation of engineering drawings.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited engineering college or university.
• Minimum of eight (8) years of professional engineering experience in design for civil infrastructure, including any of the following: airfields, stormwater and sanitary sewer collection systems, water distribution systems, roadway design, pavements, or trackwork.
• Working knowledge in Civil 3D software application.
• Proven ability to lead, manage, and prioritize multi-disciplinary engineering assignments.
• Demonstrated experience in problem solving, negotiations and conflict resolution to effectively reach sound conclusions and recommendations.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and work efficiently and independently.
• Demonstrated experience in leading project teams in the preparation of engineering designs, including preparation of proposals, design coordination, schedule reporting, budget reporting and briefing senior staff.
• Experience in preparing scope of work and design criteria for all projects involving consultants and auditing of consultants’ design and progress.
• Professional Engineer’s License in the State of New York or the State of New Jersey.
• Valid driver's license.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited engineering college or university.
• Working knowledge of guidelines and standards such as, but not limited to, FAA circulars, AASHTO or AREMA.
• Proven ability to lead, manage, and prioritize multiple assignments across multiple disciplines.
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to work independently and prioritize as required.
• Proficiency in preparing contract documents, drawings and technical specifications.
• Excellent presentation and written communication skills.
• Proficient in the use of software applications Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Proficiency in performing civil calculations for large-scale projects.
