About the role

HDR is looking for a Senior Civil Engineer to join our Building Engineering Services group. This individual will be responsible for site civil design projects across a variety of markets, including Federal, Water/Wastewater, Municipal, and Industrial. You’ll coordinate and collaborate with a multidisciplinary design team throughout the entire project lifecycle—from planning and construction documents to construction administration. Responsibilities include developing construction drawings, specifications, and engineering calculations, as well as reviewing shop drawings during construction. This role requires self-motivation, strong leadership, and a commitment to delivering high-quality, technically sound civil site designs. You’ll also lead a team of engineers and CAD professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Lead site civil design projects for Federal, Water/Wastewater, Municipal, and Industrial markets.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams throughout project lifecycles, from planning to construction administration.
  • Develop construction drawings, specifications, and supporting engineering calculations.
  • Review shop drawings during construction.
  • Lead a team of engineers and CAD professionals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of design experience managing civil/site design projects.
  • Professional Engineering (PE or P.Eng) license recognized by the licensing board for the position’s location.
  • Project Engineering and Project Management experience.
  • US naturalized citizenship (required for governmental background check).
  • Commitment to active participation in our employee-owned culture.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Microsoft Suite, MicroStation, InRoads, and other civil engineering software.
  • Experience with Maryland, Virginia, and DC stormwater permitting.
  • Expertise in site development and design of building-related site civil elements (grading, utilities, storm drainage, stormwater management, and erosion control).
  • Preference for candidates currently residing in the Mid-Atlantic (VA/MD/DC) area.

Pay

  • Fulton, MD: $129,360 – $184,800
  • Arlington, VA: $141,120 – $201,600
  • Newport News, VA: $117,600 – $168,000
  • Virginia Beach, VA: $117,600 – $168,000

Schedule

Full-time, regular position.

Locations: Arlington, VA (primary); Newport News, VA; Virginia Beach, VA; Fulton, MD.
