About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Cinematic Designer to bridge the gap between cinematics and in-game systems to help create a visually compelling story experience. In this role, you will be crafting cinematic dialogue scenes, cinevents (scripted events), and vistas (environmental camera shots).
Responsibilities
- Work with Cinematic Leadership, Narrative, Design, and technical partners to construct the visual storytelling of cinematic dialogue scenes, cinevents, vistas, and other cinematic design elements.
- Set up and maintain cinematic content from layout to final implementation using Unreal Engine 5.
- Collaborate with Story Design to implement cinematic moments into mission flow, ensuring smooth transitions from cinematic content into gameplay and vice-versa.
- Help identify moments to enhance the player experience within the story using cinematic elements.
- Work with Production and Cinematic Leadership to identify required asset creation for cinematic content, including but not limited to cinematic animation, VFX, and audio.
- Refine pipelines and tooling for Cinematic Design, ensuring coordination with the cutscene team where processes overlap.
- Validate and test cinematic content in both PIE and client to ensure bugs are reported and addressed early.
- Prototype and pitch new ideas, pipelines, and better workflows.
- Document workflows and best practices.
Requirements
- 4+ years of cinematic in-games experience.
- 2+ years of design-related experience.
- 2+ years of Unreal Engine experience.
- At least one shipped title using Unreal Engine.
Skills
- Working knowledge of UE tooling, including but not limited to: Sequencer, blueprints and visual scripting, and statetrees.
- Able to collaborate with engineering, tools, and tech art teams to find good technical solutions.
- Portfolio demonstrating a thorough understanding of choreography, timing, editing, and design, with an emphasis on telling heartfelt character stories.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate, taking direction from stakeholders on the needs of the scene.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Autodesk Maya.
- Good storyboarding skills.
