About the role
BHSI is seeking a highly analytical and technically skilled Flood (Water Resources) Engineer to join our Catastrophe Engineering and Analytics (Cat E&A) team. In this role, you will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to assess and present BHSI’s view of flood risk for individual customer property portfolios. You will assist with flood and other natural catastrophe risk assessments for our growing global property book of business, using vendor models and internal tools to inform underwriting decisions and perform risk accumulation analyses.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to flood risk modeling and analytics to support ongoing business needs.
- Perform flood risk evaluations using vendor models and internal tools.
- Communicate flood risk modeling concepts and results to underwriters to guide underwriting decisions.
- Collaborate with the team to integrate BHSI’s view of risk into catastrophe modeling tools and platforms.
- Support all aspects of natural catastrophe analytics.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Water Resources Engineering, Hydrology, Hydraulics, or a related discipline.
- Strong understanding of surface water processes, with emphasis on hydrologic and hydraulic modeling; prior flood modeling/mapping experience is a plus.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, MATLAB, or SQL.
- Solid knowledge of probability and statistics.
- Advanced GIS skills (QGIS, ArcGIS, or equivalent).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Highly motivated, detail-oriented, and a strong team player.

Pay
The base salary range for this position in San Ramon, CA, Boston, MA, or Atlanta, GA is $100,000 to $160,000, along with annual bonus eligibility. Total compensation is determined by relevant skills, location, and experience.
