Senior CAD Designer

About the role
We are seeking a Senior CAD Designer to join our team in South Portland, Maine. This office-based position requires strong technical judgment, deep proficiency in Civil 3D drafting and data processing, and the ability to coordinate CAD workflows, troubleshoot production issues, and support consistency across project teams. The role involves preparing and drafting accurate, high-quality CAD deliverables for complex land development projects and may include drafting efforts to support other practices and groups within LJB.
Responsibilities
- Lead the development, refinement, and quality review of site, grading, drainage, utility, plan/profile, and detail sheets using Civil 3D, ensuring deliverables are accurate, coordinated, and aligned with project requirements.
- Perform cut-fill and mass balancing analysis utilizing AutoCAD Earthworks and use results to support project team decision-making.
- Maintain survey point databases, surfaces, data shortcuts, profiles, and cross-sections within Civil 3D, ensuring data integrity and consistency across project files.
- Develop, utilize, and manage a standardized field code library, ensuring consistent layering, symbology, and linework to support consistent CAD production across all projects.
- Perform quality control reviews of CAD deliverables prior to release, identifying errors, resolving production issues, and confirming deliverables meet applicable project, client, and company standards.
- Occasionally support the survey department by drafting, refining, and reviewing topographic maps, ALTA surveys, construction staking plans, boundary plats, and as-built drawings using Civil 3D.
- Coordinate closely with licensed engineers, project surveyors, design/production staff, and public agencies to resolve production questions, align deliverables with applicable standards, and support timely project completion.
- Provide technical guidance to less experienced CAD and engineering staff, sharing best practices, reviewing work for accuracy, and supporting consistent application of CAD standards and production workflows.
- Maintain organized project records, metadata, and archive structures.
- Lead or actively participate in cross-office coordination meetings to align data formats, templates, CAD standards, and production workflows.
Requirements
- Advanced AutoCAD Civil 3D experience required, including demonstrated proficiency with surfaces, alignments, profiles, corridors, data shortcuts, plan production tools, and CAD standards.
- 5+ years of progressive office-based CAD production, Civil 3D drafting, and data processing.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills for data manipulation, file conversion, quantity support, and coordination of project data used in CAD production.

Pay
Hourly pay range: $36 – $50, based on experience, certifications, and regional market standards.
