Senior Buyer

About the Role

The senior buyer is responsible for assigned commodities, including pricing, procuring product, maintaining quality, and managing inventory levels.

Responsibilities

• Determine daily needs and maintain desired inventory levels.
• Order loads and build trucks for loading.
• Manage troubled loads, protections, credits, and shrink.
• Participate in the weekly pricing meeting.
• Serve as procurement representative for weekly operational meetings.
• Act as liaison between the sales staff and the procurement department.

Requirements

• High school degree or equivalent (college degree preferred).
• 3 to 5 years of purchasing experience in a related field and/or working within a retail, wholesale, or distribution environment.
• 2 years of produce-related purchasing of free on board (FOB) items.

Skills

• Working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
• Proven ability to communicate effectively over the phone, with good negotiating and interpersonal skills.
• General understanding of computers.
• Ability to handle multiple assignments and prioritize tasks effectively.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work with all levels within the organization.
• Able to handle stress and execute multiple short- and long-term tasks simultaneously.
