Senior Buyer

Summary

Mortenson is seeking a Senior Buyer who will work with project teams and suppliers to purchase materials, supplies, equipment, and services.

Responsibilities

• Develop relationships with suppliers: solicit bids, analyze quotations, and select suppliers
• Purchase items and services at the most favorable price consistent with quality, quantity, specification requirements, and other factors
• Create and maintain catalogs for each operating group or project that is supported
• Propose purchase transactions that higher authority must approve before final action
• SOURCE AND QUALIFY SUPPLIERS FOR NEW PRODUCTS AND COMPONENTS
• CORPORATE PROCUREMENT ACTIVITIES FROM CONCEPT THROUGH PRODUCTION LAUNCH
• ARRANGE RETURNS FOR UNACCEPTABLE PRODUCTS TO SUPPLIERS
• TRACK ORDER STATUS FROM TIME OF PLACING ORDER UNTIL DELIVERY AND COMMUNICATE STATUS TO PROJECT TEAMS
• ENTER PURCHASE ORDERS AND RETAIN CONTACT WITH SUPPLIERS TO ENSURE DELIVERY OF MATERIAL ON A TIMELY BASIS
• TRAIN PROJECT TEAMS TO EFFECTIVELY UTILIZE PROCUREMENT SYSTEM
• EFFECTIVELY WORK AND BUILD RELATIONSHIPS WITH THOSE OF DIVERSE BACKGROUNDS AND ORGANIZATIONAL LEVELS
• All other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in business, supply chain management, construction management or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or related experience
• Minimum 6 years of experience
• Current driver’s license
• Knowledge of construction processes, equipment and materials, purchasing processes and procedures
• New product introduction and product lifecycle management process experience
• Strategic sourcing and category management principles
• Negotiating, organizing, planning, verbal and communication skills
• Manage multiple R&D projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
• Analyze complex data and make sound business decisions under time constraints
• Drive alignment across cross-functional teams with competing priorities
• Adapt quickly to changing product requirements and market conditions
• Strong customer service and analytical skills
• Active listening skills and effective communication including an openness to diverse input and feedback

Pay and Schedule

The base pay range for this role is $84,500 - $126,800. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL – 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR – 10%, Washington, D.C. – 12.5%). Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual's knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity. This position is eligible for Mortenson's incentive plan.
