Responsibilities
- Lead the design, implementation, and optimization of complex DDC control systems in commercial buildings, overseeing all aspects of the project lifecycle from conception to completion.
- Develop innovative control strategies, logic programming, and system sequencing to maximize energy efficiency, occupant comfort, and system reliability.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and stakeholders to define project requirements, scope, technical specifications, and strategic goals.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to the Controls Team, including mentoring, training, and knowledge transfer.
- Program, configure, and integrate DDC controllers, supervisory devices, and peripheral equipment using advanced control programming languages and tools.
- Conduct detailed system inspections, performance testing, and functional verification to ensure proper system operation, functionality, and adherence to project specifications.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex control system malfunctions or failures, utilizing advanced diagnostic tools, software, and protocols.
- Optimize system performance through continuous monitoring, analysis of data trends, and implementation of system adjustments and improvements.
- Collaborate with other trades and contractors to integrate DDC control systems with other building systems, including HVAC, lighting, security, and energy management systems.
- Stay updated with the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices related to DDC controls, building automation systems, and emerging IoT (Internet of Things) technologies.
- Provide strategic guidance and support to the business development team during pre-sales activities, including system demonstrations, technical proposals, and solution customization.
- Develop and maintain accurate and detailed documentation of control system designs, programming logic, network configurations, and maintenance activities.
- Act as the primary point of contact for clients, addressing technical inquiries, providing system demonstrations, and ensuring timely resolution of system-related problems.
- Lead and manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring effective project execution, adherence to timelines, and customer satisfaction.
- Collaborate with internal teams to drive continuous improvement, evaluate new technologies, and develop best practices for controls engineering and system integration.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field. Equivalent work experience may be considered.
- Minimum of 10+ years of hands-on experience in the design, implementation, programming, and optimization of DDC control systems in complex commercial buildings.
Additional Qualifications
- Expertise in advanced controls programming languages and platforms such as Niagara, Tridium, or equivalent.
- Strong knowledge of building automation protocols and communication networks, such as BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks, etc.
- Demonstrated experience in controls system integration, including integration with other building systems and IoT technologies.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting complex control drawings, schematics, and specifications.
- In-depth knowledge of HVAC systems, including air handling units, chillers, boilers, VAV systems, etc.
- Thorough understanding of electrical systems, low-voltage wiring, and electrical codes.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex control system issues.
- Prominent leadership and project management skills, including the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects, lead cross-functional teams, and meet deadlines.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders, clients, and team members.
- Strong strategic thinking and the ability to provide innovative solutions and technical strategies.
- A valid driver's license and the ability to travel to various job sites as required.
Pay
The anticipated base salary range for this role is $84,000–$122,500 (presented in good faith). In addition to base pay, employees receive a comprehensive benefits package, such as health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off, and may be eligible for performance incentives, bonuses, commissions, or equity, depending on the role. Actual pay will depend on factors such as internal equity, skills, experience, education, certifications, and location.
