Senior Bridge Engineer

Responsibilities

• Prepare the layout and design of conventional and complex bridge structures
• Prepare and complete discipline engineering designs that are responsive to project needs, including the production of bridge design, shop drawing review, quantities, cost estimates, construction administration, and final specifications
• Ensure accuracy and adherence to good engineering codes and practices
• Plan and review the production of engineering drawings and specifications
• Conduct field observations and data collection activities
• Develop project design criteria, design calculations, construction details, quantities, and cost estimates
• Analyze technical problems, assess feasibility of proposed techniques and procedures, and devise new approaches and alternative solutions
• Mentor junior bridge designers and new graduate engineers, including training to use software, how to perform design tasks, and plan production
• Assign work tasks to junior bridge designers and graduate engineers
• Prepare and check design drawings and/or specifications
• Communicate and coordinate with other team members regarding schedule and progress on assigned tasks
• Periodically provide on-site visits to inspect or review projects to monitor compliance with project specifications or other regulations
• Complete work on time and within budget

Qualifications

• Professional Engineer (PE) license
• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (Master's degree strongly preferred)
• 8-10 years of experience in the design of all components of steel and concrete bridges
• Proficiency in MicroStation/OpenBridge and Leap Bridge software
• Experience working in a multi-disciplinary engineering environment
• Knowledge of transportation engineering concepts, principles, theories, and methods required to plan, design, and engineer facilities such as highways, streets, bridges, and multi-modal facilities
• PREFERRED: Experience working with NCDOT projects
