Responsibilities
- Prepare the layout and design of conventional and complex bridge structures
- Prepare and complete discipline engineering designs that are responsive to project needs, including the production of bridge design, shop drawing review, quantities, cost estimates, construction administration, and final specifications
- Ensure accuracy and adherence to good engineering codes and practices
- Plan and review the production of engineering drawings and specifications
- Conduct field observations and data collection activities
- Develop project design criteria, design calculations, construction details, quantities, and cost estimates
- Analyze technical problems, assess feasibility of proposed techniques and procedures, and devise new approaches and alternative solutions
- Mentor junior bridge designers and new graduate engineers, including training to use software, how to perform design tasks, and plan production
- Assign work tasks to junior bridge designers and graduate engineers
- Prepare and check design drawings and/or specifications
- Communicate and coordinate with other team members regarding schedule and progress on assigned tasks
- Periodically provide on-site visits to inspect or review projects to monitor compliance with project specifications or other regulations
- Complete work on time and within budget
Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (Master's degree strongly preferred)
- 8-10 years of experience in the design of all components of steel and concrete bridges
- Proficiency in MicroStation/OpenBridge and Leap Bridge software
- Experience working in a multi-disciplinary engineering environment
- Knowledge of transportation engineering concepts, principles, theories, and methods required to plan, design, and engineer facilities such as highways, streets, bridges, and multi-modal facilities
- PREFERRED: Experience working with NCDOT projects
