Senior Backend Software Engineer - Java

About the role

Join the Launchpad team at Worldpay and help shape the future of global commerce. Launchpad is a Worldpay application designed to streamline merchant onboarding, collecting all necessary merchant details to enable businesses to quickly start accepting credit card payments and settle transactions on the Worldpay platform. The role involves both user-friendly UI and robust API components to support seamless integration.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain RESTful APIs and event-driven applications using Java, Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Data JPA, Spring Security, Spring Validation, Spring Modulith, Apache Kafka, and related technologies, ensuring secure, scalable, and maintainable enterprise solutions.
• Participate in the full software development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, solution design, development, testing, deployment, and production support.
• Collaborate with architects and engineering teams to define API standards, event-driven integration patterns, application architecture, and development best practices.
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code using modern testing frameworks such as JUnit and Mockito, while actively participating in code reviews.
• Troubleshoot complex application issues and drive improvements in performance, scalability, reliability, and overall system health.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, contribute to architectural discussions, and communicate project status, risks, and deliverables to stakeholders.
• Demonstrate strong ownership by proactively identifying opportunities for improvement, driving technical solutions, mentoring team members, and delivering results in a collaborative Agile environment.

Qualifications

• Experience designing, developing, and maintaining RESTful APIs and event-driven applications using Java and Spring ecosystem technologies (Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Data JPA, Spring Security, Spring Validation, Spring Modulith).
• Experience with Apache Kafka or similar event-driven architectures and messaging platforms.
• Familiarity with modern testing frameworks such as JUnit and Mockito.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex application issues.

Nice to have

• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience working with CI/CD pipelines.
• Exposure to cloud platforms, preferably AWS.

Pay

For this full-time position, the good faith estimated annual salary range is $113,600.00–$171,575.00. The actual starting salary will be determined by a candidate’s experience, job-related skills, and relevant education or training. This range reflects expectations based on the role’s responsibilities, level, and geographic location. Changes in work location may impact the final offered salary. This position is also eligible for a bonus.
