Senior Backend Engineer II - eCommerce

About the role

We're looking for a Senior Backend Engineer II to join our eCommerce team, building the services that power our online booking platform. You'll design and scale APIs that support checkout, payments, scheduling, customer accounts, and third-party integrations across multiple countries. This is a high-impact role where you'll help build reliable systems that directly influence platform stability, transaction success, and business growth. Responsibilities

• Build and maintain scalable backend services using Python, FastAPI, and PostgreSQL that power our online booking experience.
• Design and maintain APIs supporting checkout, payments, scheduling, customer accounts, and order management.
• Integrate with third-party platforms including Stripe, CommerceTools, Salesforce, Voucherify, and other business-critical systems.
• Design resilient distributed systems with robust error handling, observability, and monitoring using Datadog.
• Optimize application performance, database queries, and service reliability for high-volume transactional workloads.
• Write comprehensive automated tests and contribute to a strong engineering culture focused on quality and reliability.
• Partner closely with Product, Design, and other engineering teams to deliver customer-facing features.
• Mentor other engineers, participate in architecture discussions, and help drive technical direction across the platform.

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional backend software engineering experience with Python.
• Strong experience building REST APIs with frameworks such as FastAPI, Flask, or Django.
• Deep knowledge of relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL, including schema design and query optimization.
• Experience building and maintaining distributed systems and integrating with external APIs.
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as AWS and modern CI/CD practices.
• Strong testing practices using frameworks such as pytest, with experience building reliable automated test suites.
• Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Datadog or similar platforms.
• A startup mindset: comfortable with ambiguity, able to balance speed with quality, and willing to take ownership from design through production.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across engineering and business teams.

Nice to Have

• Experience with headless commerce platforms such as CommerceTools.
• Experience with payment systems including Stripe, Affirm, or similar providers.
• Experience with SQLAlchemy, Pydantic, and asynchronous Python development.
• Familiarity with Terraform, Docker, and GitHub Actions.
• Experience with scheduling platforms, subscription systems, or healthcare applications.
• Experience working in highly regulated industries.

Pay

The base salary for this role is $175,000 to $190,000 in local currency, depending on experience and geographic location.
