About the role
This is a senior engineering role for someone who wants to own the systems behind a live AI voice product: backend workflows, integration logic, data modeling, and production reliability. You will work in Python and build the software that turns model output into deterministic behavior in real clinic workflows.
Responsibilities
- Backend services and APIs: build the services that power patient communication, scheduling, and clinic workflows.
- Workflow orchestration: design the logic for routing, triage, scheduling, retries, exception handling, and state transitions.
- Integration layer: connect the product to EHR/PMS systems and encode provider-specific preferences without turning every clinic into a one-off.
- Data modeling: define the core objects for patients, clinics, appointments, conversations, and workflow state so the platform can stay coherent as it scales.
- AI integration: work directly with OpenAI and Gemini models and the application logic around them.
- Reliability and observability: improve alerting, logging, debugging, and incident response for systems that affect real customer operations.
- Production quality: build for correctness, latency, and recoverability, not just feature delivery.
Requirements
- 5+ years of software engineering experience.
- Built and shipped production systems end to end, not just contributed to someone else’s architecture.
- Strong backend judgment across APIs, data models, integrations, and operational concerns.
- Experience shipping something from 0 to 1 and operating it after launch.
- Comfort coding in Python and working close to application logic.
- Experience with latency-sensitive, workflow-heavy, or customer-facing systems.
- Good instincts around failure modes, retries, idempotency, and debugging distributed systems.
- The ability to work through ambiguity and still make good technical decisions.
- Enough communication skill to explain tradeoffs clearly to product and leadership.
Qualifications
- Healthcare, telephony, workflow automation, or LLM system experience is a plus.
- Strong backend fundamentals matter more than domain familiarity.
