Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain backend APIs and microservices supporting Allia’s platform ecosystem.
- Implement event-driven architectures enabling real-time processing and service decoupling.
- Integrate and optimize secure payment systems, preferably Stripe, for digital commerce workflows.
- Collaborate with Principal Engineering, frontend teams, and DevOps to align on architecture and system design.
- Develop CI/CD pipelines and automated testing frameworks to ensure code quality and deployment reliability.
- Monitor performance, troubleshoot system bottlenecks, and improve backend resiliency.
- Participate in code reviews, architectural discussions, and provide mentorship to junior engineers.
- Maintain thorough technical documentation and uphold best practices in security, scalability, and code quality.
Requirements
- MSc in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent professional experience.
- Minimum 5 years of backend development experience within complex, distributed systems.
- Must be a resident and citizen of Portugal.
Skills
- Strong proficiency in Node.js, Java, Kotlin, or Python with production experience in frameworks such as Spring Boot or FastAPI.
- Proven expertise in RESTful API and microservices architecture.
- Experience designing event-driven systems (Kafka, Pub/Sub, or equivalent).
- Hands-on experience with payment integrations (Stripe preferred).
- Advanced experience with SQL and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Elasticsearch).
- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes for containerization and orchestration.
- Strong CI/CD experience (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or equivalent).
- Solid understanding of Git workflows and automated testing frameworks.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Google Cloud, Looker, Vertex AI, UiPath, N8N, GitHub CI/CD, PostgreSQL, Docker, or Kubernetes.
- AWS experience is welcome; Google Cloud is preferred.

Pay
Salary Range: €55,000–€70,000 annually, depending on experience.
Schedule
- Ability to work from a shared office space in Madeira, remotely within Portugal, or from a Portuguese-time zone–aligned location.
- Flexibility to adjust portions of the workday to overlap with US CST.
