Senior Back-End Microservices Engineer

Active security clearance at the TS/SCI polygraph level is required.

About the role

We have an immediate need for an Application Engineer (Backend) specializing in Python microservices and middleware architecture. In this key role, you will help transition legacy, manual security evaluation processes into a streamlined, automated, continuous monitoring and assessment platform. You will lead the development, testing, deployment, and sustainment of Python-based REST endpoints and microservices using Django and Flask, managing data flows across MariaDB and MongoDB databases to power modern user interfaces.

Responsibilities

• Develop, test, deploy, and sustain Python-based REST endpoints and microservices.
• Design and implement middleware architecture for automated security monitoring and assessment.
• Manage data flows between MariaDB and MongoDB databases.
• Engineer REST endpoints that serialize complex data into JSON format for front-end consumption.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Data Analytics, Intelligence Studies, Computer Science, Finance/Economics, or a related discipline, PLUS 8+ years of specialized data analytics or financial intelligence experience.
• OR High School Diploma / GED, PLUS 12+ years of hands-on intelligence analysis, financial tracking, and data discovery experience in lieu of a degree.

Skills

Required Skills

• Python Microservices Development: Demonstrated hands-on experience developing backend microservices and RESTful web services in Python.
• Python Web Frameworks: Proficiency using Django or Flask frameworks for API design and microservices orchestration.
• Database Management: Practical experience interfacing backend applications with relational databases (MariaDB or similar SQL engines) and NoSQL datastores (MongoDB).
• API Data Formatting: Direct experience engineering REST endpoints that serialize complex data into JSON format for front-end consumption.
• Middleware & System Architecture: Strong command of backend software design, middleware integration, and backend performance optimization.

Desired Skills

• Continuous Security Monitoring: Familiarity with continuous monitoring frameworks, automated compliance assessment, and system security authorization workflows.
• Front-End Integration: Understanding of how backend REST services interface with modern single-page applications (e.g., Angular dashboards).
• Containerization & CI/CD: Experience packaging Python microservices into containers (Docker) and deploying via automated CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI, Jenkins).

Pay

• Annual base salary range: $172,000-$203,000 (USD).
• Discretionary bonus compensation available.
• Flexibility to cash out annual leave hours, opt out of other benefits, or arrange for additional contract hours (over 40 hrs/week).
• Option to earn 1.3 times your hourly rate once you work over 1880 hours on contract.

Leave

• 4 weeks of Annual Leave plus 11 holidays.
• Additional day of Annual Leave for each year of service.
• Option to buy additional annual leave for a total of 6 weeks (240 hours) plus 11 holidays.
• Paid anniversary leave.

Schedule

• Flexibility to scale down to 30-32 hours per week while retaining benefits.
