Temporary full-time position located in Mossville, IL (onsite). Estimated duration: 12 months. Shift: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM or 8:00 AM–4:30 PM.
About the Role
The Senior Autonomous Systems Engineer applies computer-science and mathematical-analysis principles to design, develop, test, and evaluate the software and systems that enable autonomous machines. The role focuses on defining system-integration requirements for multiple onboard electronic systems—including hardware, software, and human interactions—within the Loading, Dozing & Compaction Application Team.
Responsibilities
- Develop and document system-integration requirements for autonomous machines.
- Decompose complex customer requirements into achievable technical (L6) system-level requirements covering both hardware and software.
- Manage system-level requirements and related features in DevOps, ensuring clear documentation and traceability.
- Collaborate with Machine System teams (L6) to determine optimal component selection and system-integration strategies for autonomous features.
- Apply new autonomous-system solutions and technologies to semi- or fully autonomous systems.
- Modify existing databases and database-management systems; write and code logical/physical database descriptions.
- Coordinate database development, define project scope, and estimate time and cost for project requests.
- Serve as the subject-matter expert for Surface Loading Machine Autonomous Solutions.
- Communicate system readiness and technical risk to stakeholders.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Proven experience as a Systems Engineer supporting product-development teams focused on autonomous machines, including software/hardware integration.
- Experience collaborating with systems-integration and validation teams for engineering product development, both in-lab and on-machine.
- Knowledge of Construction Equipment such as Articulated Dump Trucks, Hydraulic Excavators, and Wheel Loaders.
- Experience with systems integration over CAN and Ethernet.
- Strong working knowledge of the Caterpillar Command ecosystem in mining or construction, or comparable centralized-control architectures.
- Ability to analyze user needs, design solutions, and make trade-off decisions between time, resources, and quality.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of systems engineering for autonomous/embedded products.
- 5+ years of systems integration and validation.
- 5+ years of requirements engineering and system architecture.
- 5+ years with embedded systems, CAN Bus, and Ethernet communication.
- 5+ years in the Construction Equipment, Autonomous Vehicle, or Heavy Equipment domain.

Pay
Hourly rate: $40.00–$47.00.
