About the Role

The Office of Central Services (OCS) is currently seeking a qualified applicant to fill an Equipment Mechanic III position, grade A-17, within its Fleet Management Division. This is a senior level position that involves skilled mechanical work in equipment maintenance, repair, and service involving light to medium sized motor vehicles and equipment such as automobiles, vans, trucks, and buses.

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes computer based diagnostic equipment, service and parts manuals, training and experience in the analysis and correction of vehicle problems.
  • Performs maintenance and repair to engines, computerized electronic ignition and fuel/emission systems, suspension and steering related components in both front and rear wheel drive vehicles, air conditioning, heating and cooling systems and brake systems, utilizing appropriate equipment.
  • May supervise, lead, train or provide technical guidance to subordinates.
  • Observes all administrative rules and regulations and practices proper county and industry safety procedures.
  • Enters, edits, and completes work orders to assist in the collection of direct and indirect labor using the current computerized database.
  • Diagnoses and performs minor road service repairs to preclude the need to tow vehicles in compliance with the Maryland Vehicle Law and Division policies.
  • Performs other tasks and duties as assigned which may not be specifically listed in the class specification or position description but fall within the general occupational category a responsibility level typically associated with the incumbent class of work.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Three (3) years of experience/training in the mechanical field servicing, repairing, and performing preventative maintenance on a variety of light to medium sized motorized vehicles and equipment, with at least one (1) year at the full performance level.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license with no more than six (6) points.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications
  • Master Certified Emissions Technician (MCET)
  • Maryland State Inspector

Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting and carrying objects weighing 50 pounds or more; pulling, pushing, reaching, walking, standing, crawling, kneeling, repeated bending, and climbing; and safely operating trucks, tractors, and other motor vehicles and equipment. Meet all training and performance standards and demonstrate proficiency as required by the agency. Wear and use agency protective apparel and equipment in the performance of their assigned duties. Successfully pass preemployment checks which may include reference checks, background investigations, and drug screenings. Be willing and able to serve as an essential employee. This is an essential position. Essential employees are expected to report during standard or non-standard hours as operations necessitate, or during emergencies. Essential employees are expected to report or remain at work when other County employees are granted Administrative Leave.
