Senior Automation Scientist
About the role
The Senior Automation Scientist will design and implement automation cells for liquid handling, robotic integration, plate movement, and barcode-enabled sample tracking. They will integrate laboratory instruments with digital systems such as LIMS, ELN, scheduling tools, and data capture platforms. Responsibilities also include developing control logic, scripts, and interfaces that support automated workflows, exception handling, and error recovery. Monitoring capabilities for uptime, throughput, logs, dashboards, and alerts will be built and maintained. Automation protocols will be translated from assay steps into robust and scalable solutions in collaboration with laboratory scientists. Validation documentation, audit readiness, and change control activities will be supported in collaboration with Quality.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement automation cells for liquid handling, robotic integration, plate movement, and barcode-enabled sample tracking
- Integrate laboratory instruments with digital systems such as LIMS, ELN, scheduling tools, and data capture platforms
- Develop control logic, scripts, and interfaces that support automated workflows, exception handling, and error recovery
- Build and maintain monitoring capabilities for uptime, throughput, logs, dashboards, and alerts
- Translate assay steps into robust and scalable automation protocols in partnership with laboratory scientists
- Support validation documentation, audit readiness, and change control activities in collaboration with Quality
- Drive continuous improvement by reducing failure modes, simplifying maintenance, and improving cycle time
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Science/Engineering or related field required
- 5+ years in laboratory operations, lab transformation, automation programs, or digital lab systems
- Hands-on experience with lab automation platforms such as liquid handlers and robotic integration systems
- Proficiency in scripting or programming for automation and integration using Python, C#, JavaScript, or equivalent
Qualifications
- Strong troubleshooting skills across hardware, software, sensors, and laboratory processes
- Ability to collaborate cross-functionally and translate scientific workflows into reliable automation solutions
- Working knowledge of regulated laboratory environments with disciplined documentation practices
- Continuous improvement mindset with focus on reliability, scalability, and operational efficiency
Skills
- Proficiency in scripting or programming for automation and integration using Python, C#, JavaScript, or equivalent

Pay
The potential base pay range for this role, when annualized, is $62,000.00 - $129,100.00. The actual base pay offered may vary based on a number of factors including job-related qualifications such as knowledge, skills, education, and experience; location; and/or schedule (full or part-time).
