SENIOR AUTOMATION INTERFACING SOFTWARE ENGINEER
About the role
At Flexxbotics we deliver a next-generation platform for smart manufacturing that connects factory equipment, business systems, and data to enable autonomous, closed-loop process control. Our platform links machine tools, robots, sensors, inspection and vision systems, PLCs, and enterprise software — turning disconnected production operations into a single, data-driven system with AI and continuous feedback at its core.
Our forward deployed engineering team is on the front line of that mission. We build and deploy the communication interfaces and data pipelines that make our customers' equipment and business systems talk to each other, and we work side-by-side with customers to enable them.
Responsibilities
- Develop software communication interfaces for complex industrial equipment and business systems in Python, Java, JavaScript, C#, C, and C++.
- Build and deploy data pipelines that move production data between equipment, the Flexxbotics platform, and customer business systems (MES, ERP, quality, and other enterprise software).
- Integrate equipment and systems to enable data collection, AI-driven insights, and closed feedback loops that drive autonomous process control.
- Perform basic electrical and networking setups including wiring PLCs, digital inputs\/outputs, relays, and safety systems, as well as configuring complex Ethernet-based network setups.
- Get hands-on with industrial controllers (PLCs, CNC controls, robot controllers, and more) to configure them for communication — setting up protocols, network parameters, tags\/registers, and data mappings to bring equipment onto the platform.
- Travel on-site to clients (up to 50% travel) to:
- Develop communication interfaces on-site for new equipment and systems outside of the existing Flexxbotics library.
- Stand up and validate data pipelines and integrations in the customer's live environment.
- Support clients with fixes, improvements, and expansions to their existing deployments.
- Train customers on the platform and enable them to operate, maintain, and get value from their deployments.
- Generate ideas for product innovation based on direct customer feedback, and drive those improvements back into the product as a forward deployed engineer.
- Bridge the gap between, collaborate with, and give feedback to software development teams to ensure alignment and robustness of the entire solution.
- Create processes and tooling for improving interface and pipeline development efficiency and reliability.
- Create documentation for communication interfaces, data pipelines, setup procedures, and internal processes.
- Keep up with advancements in systems engineering, data infrastructure, AI, and new technologies.
- Assist with creation of in-house integration tools and continuous integration infrastructure.
- Provide clients with remote technical support.
- Assist sales with existing and new equipment/system integration inquiries and proposals.
- Perform training sessions or demonstrations for clients, partners, or new hires.
- Operate outside your area of direct expertise to solve hard problems with the rest of our cross-disciplinary team.
Requirements

- A strong technical background and understanding of software, data, and electronics.
- Experience using LLM\/AI coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, Copilot, Cursor) to accelerate software development.
- Experience integrating industrial equipment, control systems, and/or enterprise/business systems.
- Ability to research unknown technologies and build novel solutions from the ground up.
- Ability to design integration solutions for proprietary hardware protocols and system APIs.
- Willingness to travel and perform technical integrations at customer sites.
- Ability to effectively communicate on technical challenges with customers.
- Ability to invent novel solutions to challenging technical problems.
Bonus points
- Experience with industrial machines, automation, robotics, or other industrial equipment.
