About the role

As the Senior Automation Engineer, you will design, implement, and improve Automated Material Handling Systems and Technology within the fulfillment network. This role collaborates closely with functional stakeholders, vendors, and other engineers to solve problems and reduce fulfillment costs with minimal direction.

Responsibilities

  • Interface with external vendors and system integrators to design automated order fulfillment solutions.
  • Scope and stay current on top industry technology such as AMRs, Robotics, AS/RS, sortation systems, and similar.
  • Lead data analytic efforts for designing Automation and Material Handling Systems, extracting clear and concise outputs from messy inputs.
  • Analyze large datasets and provide clear, actionable insights.
  • Create operations-facing productivity dashboards and pioneer data-driven success measurement.
  • Optimize Distribution Center layouts, material flows, and Automation equipment.
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to ensure business needs are met by new system designs.
  • Support business case justification for new technology, CapEx purchases, and process enhancements.
  • Translate complex technical information into simple documentation and presentations, independently.
  • Leverage GenAI to automate time-consuming tasks and improve internal processes.

Requirements

  • Extremely data-oriented with experience building data-driven tools and models that provide valuable insights to complex problems.
  • Experienced in equipment selection, design, standards, performance improvement, and statistics.
  • Able to work as part of a team and interact effectively with others.
  • Able to analyze and provide solutions for cost reduction through automation implementation and cost/benefit analysis.
  • Superior multi-tasker with the ability to meet concurrent project deadlines.
  • Known for delivering polished, high-quality presentations and reports that influence and accelerate business decision-making.
  • Able to travel up to 25%, peaking up to 50% during project implementations.

Qualifications

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or similar field required.
  • 5+ years of engineering experience in multi-site industrial distribution, manufacturing, or processing environments preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience with SQL (Snowflake, MSSQL) and advanced data visualization tools (Tableau, Grafana, etc.).
  • Experience with simulation software (FlexSim, etc.) and MOST modeling.
  • Experience with Warehouse Control Systems (WCS/WES) and Warehouse Management Systems (WMS).
  • Hands-on mechanical aptitude and an ability to understand how equipment and systems operate.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, professional attitude, and the ability to interact with individuals at various levels of the organization.

  • Texas: $91,140—$105,400 USD
  • Newark, NJ: $105,105—$121,550 USD
  • Arizona: $91,140—$105,400 USD
