About the role
Audubon is seeking a Senior Automation Engineer to join our team in Canonsburg, PA. The ideal candidate will have experience specifying, designing, programming, and testing automation and control systems for industrial facilities, particularly in the Oil & Natural Gas, Petrochemical, Chemical, Food and Beverage, Steel, Water/Waste Water, Power Generation, and/or Specialty sectors. This role involves initiating customer relationships, leading project teams, and consistently exceeding expectations.
Responsibilities
- Specify, program, integrate, and implement control systems including DCS, PLC, HMI, and SCADA platforms.
- Lead I/O and loop checks, commissioning, and startup activities, including progress reports, meetings, and punch-lists.
- Lead projects from conception through commissioning and startup, ensuring scope is executed within budget and on schedule.
- Visit job sites to evaluate projects, define scope, and develop proposals from walk-downs.
- Develop and support proposal development according to scope definition.
- Assist with change order scope, control, and development.
- Review vendor drawings for compliance with project specifications.
- Read, understand, and translate P&IDs and electrical drawings into DCS/PLC/HMI applications.
- Interact and communicate effectively with customers, vendors, engineers, and management.
- Collaborate with other engineering departments to develop and review drawings, specifications, and scope.
- Adhere to project budgets and manage them within given timeframes.
- Specify, design, program, and test automation systems, including but not limited to:
- PLC: Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Emerson ROC, Modicon, Triconex, GE
- DCS: Centum VP, PCS7, DeltaV, ABB 800, Honeywell, PlantPAx
- HMI: WinCC, Cimplicity, Wonderware/Archestra, Ignition, Beijer, FactoryTalk
- Follow and perform work in accordance with company and customer Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) policies.
- Travel to customer sites as required, averaging around 25%.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, preferably from an ABET-accredited institution.
- Minimum of 10+ years in a technical leadership role on automation and controls projects, including commissioning and startup.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or Master’s degree in a related engineering field is a plus.
- Automation system training or certification is a plus.
- Ability to execute and lead multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience generating and maintaining project schedules.
- Experience configuring control systems for various industries and facilities.
- Understanding of industrial automation aspects, including BPCS, SIS, instrumentation, communication protocols, networking, and cybersecurity.
