Senior Automation Engineer
About the role
Serve as Automation Discipline Lead for major capital and greenfield projects within the US Minerals & Metals sector, providing technical leadership, oversight, and accountability for automation scope delivery.
Lead the development, coordination, and approval of automation and control system engineering deliverables in accordance with AtkinsRéalis quality standards, project procedures, and applicable US codes.
Provide technical direction for the preparation of control philosophies, P&IDs, I/O lists, alarm rationalization, cause & effect matrices, and overall control system architectures (PLC/DCS/SCADA).
Oversee instrumentation and control system design activities, including instrument selection, specifications, datasheets, and integration with mechanical and process equipment packages.
Lead and participate in process safety activities such as HAZOP, SIL, and LOPA studies, ensuring compliance with ISA, IEC, NFPA, NEC, and client-specific requirements.
Interface effectively with other disciplines, vendors, OEMs, and construction teams; review and approve vendor documentation and technical submittals for compliance and constructability.
Responsibilities

Requirements
- Degree in Instrumentation/Control Systems from an accredited University or College.
- 12+ years of instrumentation design experience.
- Proven track record of successful projects.
- Highly motivated/organized.
Qualifications
- Registration as a Professional Engineer is a requirement.
Skills
- Strong technical knowledge of automation and control systems.
- Experience with PLC/DCS/SCADA systems.
- Ability to lead and mentor engineers and designers.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Pay
Expected compensation range is between $110,700 - $180,000 annually depending on skills, experience, and geographical location.
