About the role

Trustmark’s Compliance Audit team is a key part of the Internal Audit team, functioning as the third line of defense. The team provides an independent and objective perspective on Trustmark’s processes and risks by assessing and testing the adequacy and effectiveness of risk management policies and practices, as well as adherence to applicable laws and regulations. The Compliance team performs audits of business processes shared across the organization, with a primary focus on consumer compliance topics related to both deposit and lending products.

The Senior Auditor of Compliance assists audit management with the execution of compliance audits, completing high-quality walkthroughs and testing throughout Trustmark. This role involves identifying and understanding risks and controls associated with various business functions, executing testing to determine the design and effectiveness of controls, and drafting findings and reporting deliverables.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate strong audit skills with a solid understanding of audit concepts within planning, fieldwork, and reporting.
  • Perform regulatory research to understand relevant compliance risks associated with the audit.
  • Participate in risk intelligence activities to identify emerging risks, trends, regulatory changes, and other items of potential impact on the annual audit plan.
  • Independently prioritize tasks, identify obstacles within assignments, and proactively suggest solutions.
  • Exhibit strong business and audit writing skills; cohesively present and organize information and effectively articulate key points.
  • Formally document findings for management and create audit reports with oversight.
  • Deliver thoughtful and organized messages to the line of business in both written and verbal communication, tailoring the message to the audience.
  • Build relationships within the scope of assignments and demonstrate influence/challenge skills within the team, clients, and management.
  • Work productively and collaboratively with a variety of people.
  • Support the design and execution of an engagement’s audit approach and procedures in accordance with relevant regulatory guidance, banking industry accounting literature, applicable internal guidance, and the International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of, or a desire to learn, consumer compliance regulatory requirements.
  • Independently multi-task and prioritize projects to consistently meet deadlines.
  • Build relationships with clients and teammates and listen to feedback with an open mind.
  • Assist with the development of newer staff.

Requirements

  • 3-4 years of audit experience. In lieu of audit experience, prior work history in compliance risk for a bank will also be considered.
  • Knowledge across bank business and functions, including bank products and an understanding of business, industry, and regulatory concepts.
  • Ability to leverage business acumen to advise and consult with leaders within your area of expertise.
  • Developing ability to draw insight from risk intelligence and make valuable recommendations.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytic skills.

Additional Qualifications

  • Five or more years of banking/financial services audit experience.
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with comfort communicating with management.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and accounting procedures.
  • Strong understanding of internal controls.
  • Strong analytical and project management skills.
  • Prior bank Internal Audit experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree preferred.
  • Relevant certifications, such as Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA).

Physical Requirements / Working Conditions

Must be able to sit for long periods of time and use a computer keyboard and/or mouse while viewing computer screens.
