- Manage the unique accounting requirements of cooperatives, such as patronage dividend distributions, per-unit retain accounting, and member equity tracking.
- Coordinate and execute engagements using cloud-based audit tools and, if hybrid, periodic in-person collaboration to maintain high service levels.
- Contribute to scaling the Ag practice by refining audit programs specific to agribusiness and assisting with onboarding new agricultural clients.
- Supervise and mentor junior staff, providing technical guidance on specialized Ag accounting both virtually and in-person as applicable.
- Travel as needed, including overnight travel, to client locations.
Requirements
- Active CPA license is required.
- 3–5 years of progressive experience in public accounting, with a primary focus on audit and assurance.
- Direct experience with agricultural cooperatives or grain accounting is highly preferred.
- Strong expertise in US GAAP, specifically ASC 815 (Derivatives and Hedging) and ASC 606 as they relate to agricultural commodities.
- A genuine interest in the agriculture industry and the desire to be a subject-matter expert in this fast-growing niche.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with grain merchandising software (e.g., Agvantage, AgVance, Great Plains) and cloud-based audit platforms.
- Strong analytical skills regarding commodity markets, hedging, and the financial impact of basis movement on grain financial statements.
- Proven ability to work effectively in a flexible environment, whether remote or hybrid.
- Excellent communication skills for delivering technical financial reports to Cooperative Boards and management teams.
