Senior Attorney (NY HELPS)
About the role
Candidate may be responsible for defending cases arising under the Rent Stabilization Law and Article 78 of the CPLR, preparation of Affidavits, Memoranda of Law, Court appearances, preparation of transactional papers, and advice with respect to refinancing, preservation, and management of the existing housing portfolio. Candidate may also work with the Office of the Attorney General as a liaison, perform legal research, and other related duties.
Requirements
This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply. At a future date, employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status without having to compete in an examination, affording the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State.
- Non-competitive Minimum Qualifications: Admission to the NYS bar and two years of post-licensure professional legal experience.
- Competitive Minimum Qualifications: Must be reachable on the appropriate New York State Civil Service eligible list.
- Transfer Qualifications: One year of permanent or contingent permanent service in an eligible title for transfer determined to be similar by Civil Service. A list of approved titles is available through Civil Service GOT-IT.

Pay
Candidates new to state service will start at a hiring rate of $96,336 plus location pay of $4,000.
