About the role

Ares Management is seeking a Senior Associate for our US Public Credit accounting team. The Senior Associate will be responsible for the day-to-day accounting and oversight of several publicly traded business development companies (“BDCs”).

Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparation of US GAAP financial statements for monthly reporting and quarterly and annual SEC filings (10K, 10Q, 8K, N-2, etc.)
  • Prepare quarterly GAAP consolidated financial statements for an SEC-registered investment advisor, a controlled portfolio company of the BDC
  • Prepare quarterly footnote and MD&A disclosures and other analyses, as needed
  • Oversee and review monthly NAV packages from the fund administrator
  • Prepare and review monthly account reconciliations and fluctuation analyses
  • Prepare quarterly board reporting
  • Assist in managing relationships and liaising with internal resources, fund administrators, and auditors to meet all daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual deadlines
  • Assist with monthly/quarterly close process and preparation of various financial statement account balance reconciliations and workpapers
  • Engage in high-level interaction across the organization, including communications with portfolio managers, investor relations, operations, tax, and financial reporting
  • Review reporting to investors and internal constituents (portfolio managers, investor relations)
  • Work closely with operations and other groups in managing daily cash and position breaks
  • Manage daily cash activities, including processing of payments, depositing of checks, and posting to the general ledger
  • Prepare/review monthly portfolio position and cash reconciliations
  • Prepare quarterly waterfall calculations and review monthly distribution reports from the trustee
  • Participate and contribute to regular review of processes and deliverables to improve effectiveness, efficiency, and accuracy
  • Handle various ad-hoc/special projects

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • CPA or relevant certification is a plus
  • 4-6 years of relevant professional experience (preferred)
  • Public Accounting experience, Big 4 (preferred)
  • Industry experience, specifically with credit-related investments
  • Experience with Advent Geneva, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, and OneStream software is a plus

  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial instruments, and regulatory requirements
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to analyze and summarize complex information both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to multi-task and manage various deadlines
  • Strong Excel skills (e.g., complex formulas, macros)
  • Experience with Power BI, Alteryx, Tableau, or other business intelligence tools is a plus

Pay

The anticipated base salary range for this position is $130,000 - $160,000. Total compensation may also include a discretionary performance-based bonus.
