About the Role

The Data Product Owner plays a critical role within the AI&D product management organization, bridging business strategy, data, and technology. You will drive business value from data by transforming it into actionable insights, tools, and products that create revenue, reduce costs, and improve customer experience. This role requires collaboration with data product managers, data engineering, data governance, data science, data analytics, and business stakeholders to deliver scalable, reliable, and impactful enterprise data products. You will work closely with cross-functional teams across New York Life, including Foundational Business, Sales, Service, Eagle Investment Advisory, NYLIFE Securities, Life and other products, Technology, and more.

Responsibilities

  • Ownership: Provide input into the enterprise 360 data product vision and strategy to drive effective outcomes. Align strategies for business teams and create a portfolio of AI & Data cross-functional initiatives.
  • Roadmap: Define and prioritize the roadmap across the portfolio, create functional and non-functional requirements, and manage the product backlog and execution through scrum teams.
  • Definition: Articulate business problems, gather evidence from users and external sources, clarify potential solutions, and document business and data requirements.
  • Delivery: Partner with AI&D cross-functional teams, business unit product managers, and technology partners to ensure high-quality execution of key initiatives in a scaled agile framework.
  • Communication: Serve as the primary evangelist of AI&D strategy and data product capabilities, reinforcing the business value of data as a strategic asset to internal, business, and executive stakeholders.
  • Outcomes: Drive outcomes aligned with business teams and AI&D OKRs, and report key metrics on product effectiveness, utilization, and satisfaction.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a technical field (Engineering/Computer Science or related) or business-related discipline.
  • 2+ years of insurance or financial industry experience with product management, design, or business-facing product development.
  • 3+ years of product management experience, including defining and managing product backlogs and writing business and data requirements.
  • Proficient in waterfall and agile software development methodologies.
  • 3+ years of experience working with data & analytics products and cloud technologies, MDM (identity resolution), data management, data governance, data science, and analytics.
  • Proven experience in shipping enterprise 360 data products from ideation to launch, with a deep understanding of data architecture, pipeline technologies, data lineage, data governance, APIs, and data discovery.
  • Solid understanding of data infrastructure (e.g., Databricks, DBT, MuleSoft, APIs, AWS, GCP, or Azure).
  • Familiarity with data governance and discovery tools such as Atlan and Anomalo.
  • Ability to work with SQL, BI tools, and data visualization platforms (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Crystal Reports).
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to develop influential presentations and communicate persuasively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Demonstrated success in creating measurable business benefits from products and analytics while working with cross-functional stakeholders in complex organizations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven track record of managing end-to-end product lifecycles from ideation to launch, with the ability to think strategically and translate insights into actionable product strategies.
  • Experience in insurance products, asset management, or wealth management.
  • Fluency in technical and product delivery tools like Confluence, Jira, or Monday.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to collaborate across cross-functional groups (e.g., Technology, Data, Compliance, Legal) and third-party partners.
  • CSPO (Certified Scrum Product Owner) certification.

Pay

Salary Range: $124,000–$177,000. Actual base salary will be determined based on experience, skills, qualifications, and job location. Employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus and may participate in an incentive program.

Schedule

Hybrid work schedule: Remote on Mondays and Fridays; on-site in New York office Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
