Senior Associate, Commodity Market Transformation - Climate Intelligence Program
Your Impact
Your Impact As a Senior Associate at RMI, you will use your creative problem-solving skills to provide analysis and support on initiatives to reduce methane emissions from the oil and gas sector. You’ll be part of RMI’s Climate Intelligence Program (CIP), which advances data-driven approaches to quantifying emissions and builds upon this foundation with action-oriented contextual analysis and market-driven solutions. This position will contribute to the Commodity Market Transformation Initiative (CMTI), which aims to accelerate the transition away from oil and gas and decarbonization of the sector in parallel by advancing market-based solutions with a diverse set of stakeholders – from governments and companies to investors and civil society. Roles And Responsibilities
- Lead and contribute to original analysis of global methane import standards and their potential to activate low-methane leakage gas markets in the US
- Present quantitative information in a clear, visual format for public consumption, such as for white papers, briefing materials, presentations, and RMI publications
- Build and lead high-trust stakeholder relationships in complex contexts, using strategic influence to advance policy and market-based methane reduction efforts
- Stakeholders may include policymakers and regulators, academic researchers, other NGOs, oil and gas companies, and financial institutions
- With senior guidance, implement and execute delivery of projects, tasks, and work streams: change models, research methods, timelines, communications plans, and stakeholder engagement strategies
- Collaborate with other RMI initiatives and programs to drive joint analysis and outcomes related to the energy transition and oil and gas
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical field such as energy economics, energy policy, chemical or environmental engineering, climate science, data science, environmental science, etc.
- At least 5 years of relevant work experience OR a M.S. degree in a related field plus 2 years of relevant work experience
- Strong quantitative and problem-solving skills, including the ability to break down complex issues in a straightforward, rational manner
- Self-direction and ability to balance concurrent requests and priorities
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the oil and gas or electricity industries, energy consulting and research, policy and regulation, energy-related economics, energy market analysis, finance, or other related fields
- Exceptional writing skills for both technical and general audiences
- Background working on sectoral greenhouse gas emissions, especially methane
Location
We are a remote-ready organization with team members around the globe. We welcome candidates from across the US who can participate in meetings scheduled during US Eastern and European time zones. Our beautiful and welcoming offices are available for meetings or focused work, whether you are traveling through or living nearby. Our U.S. offices are in New York City; Washington DC; Oakland, California; Boulder, Colorado; and Basalt, Colorado. This role can be located from anywhere in the continental United States. We provide you with the essential IT equipment plus a one-time home technology payment and a monthly work from home/commuter allowance to ensure you have a comfortable home office set up and necessary supplies. We love seeing each other in person! We occasionally gather for shared time together like retreats and learning experiences. Be ready to travel for occasional in-person meetings (and of course, we cover travel costs).
Compensation
RMI compensates based on the level and requirements of the role. Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. Typically, a new Senior Associate joins at the minimum to mid salary range of $84,000 - $103,000. You would also have an additional 5% bonus target!
