Senior Assistant Superintendent

Responsibilities

• Aid the Superintendent in all aspects of daily operations.
• Act as Superintendent during the absence of the Superintendent.
• Provide leadership and guidance to Assistant Superintendents and golf course maintenance staff.
• Maintain the course appearance and safety by diagnosing and reporting agronomic issues; managing irrigation system adjustments and scheduling; maintaining a variety of turfgrasses in extreme conditions; preparing the course for tournaments and daily play; operating various hand and power tools for mowing, edging, or cultivation; integrating environmental programs like IPM; overseeing maintenance of the golf cart fleet; and coordinating, scheduling, and supervising capital improvement projects.
• Manage maintenance operations, including employees involved in maintaining greens, fairways, tees, sand traps, roughs, the maintenance shop, golf carts, and clubhouse grounds, by recruiting, selecting, training, scheduling, evaluating, supervising, and correcting employees when necessary.
• Assist the Superintendent in conducting safety meetings.
• Provide day-to-day direction, training, and support to maintenance employees and assist with developing team members.
• Perform administrative tasks such as maintaining maintenance records and developing required reports; tracking maintenance expenses, including payroll, supplies, fertilizers, chemicals, and other costs; and informing the Superintendent of parts, supplies, or equipment needed.
• Communicate course conditions with the Superintendent, golf staff, and members or guests.
• Implement and support all American Golf initiatives and programs as requested by management.

Qualifications

• Effective communication skills with co-workers and management.
• Ability to communicate effectively with Spanish-speaking co-workers in some locations.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Proven time-management, organization, and prioritization skills.
• Demonstrated leadership experience in golf course maintenance operations.
• Member of the Golf Course Superintendents Association preferred.
• Relevant licenses required by regulatory agencies, including a certified pesticide license.
• Ability to operate all equipment used for golf course maintenance.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Two- or four-year college degree in Agronomy, Turf Management, Horticulture, or a related field preferred.
