About the Role

To assist customers in their shopping experience by leading the Deli team in a way that promotes growth for the company and delivers the product and service Cosentino’s customers expect. This is a non-exempt position formally reporting to the Deli Manager.

Requirements

• Food handling permit obtained within the first 14 days of employment
• Minimum of 6 months previous experience in a deli, bakery, restaurant, or food service operations position
• Completion of ongoing training and development as listed on the Cosentino’s Learning Plan
• High school diploma or equivalent

Responsibilities

• In the absence of the Deli Manager, provide direct supervision of the deli team in an operationally effective, motivating, and respectful manner
• Promote a positive team atmosphere through cooperation, teamwork, high morale, and recognition for a job well done
• Assist the Deli Manager in conducting effective interviews to hire high-quality candidates
• Provide coaching, corrective actions, and performance evaluations to improve individual and team performance
• Address employee relations issues and work with management or HR to resolve them
• Practice effective inventory management, including verifying merchandise, inspecting deliveries, and monitoring product rotation
• Procure items from suppliers and notify the Deli Manager of special inventory needs
• Enforce strict quality control measures for all deli products
• Practice appropriate portion control in deli production and service
• Promote department sales by suggesting additional products, offering samples, and highlighting ads and specials
• Know the location of department items to accurately and courteously answer customer questions
• Meet or exceed productivity standards for team and individual results
• Resolve customer complaints professionally and escalate when necessary
• Implement Cosentino’s Customer Service Standards
• Comply with and ensure the team follows all health regulations, sanitation guidelines, and safety procedures
• Operate, clean, and maintain all equipment safely and competently
• Ensure the department is clean, fully stocked, and creatively merchandised
• Demonstrate strong verbal, interpersonal, and basic math skills required for the position

Non-essential functions include managing labor costs, preparing and packaging products, unloading shipments, and supporting other departments as needed.

Physical Abilities

• Reaching overhead (up to 74 inches) and lifting objects up to 20 lbs with both hands
• Pushing and pulling items with a peak force of 50 lbs
• Standing and walking for long periods on hard surfaces
• Occasionally lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs
• Bending and squatting, including to floor level
• Working in cooler and freezer conditions

Non-essential physical abilities may include climbing a ladder up to 5 feet.
