About the Role
NBBJ New York is seeking a Senior Architectural Designer to join our highly collaborative and design-oriented studio. In this role, you will support design leadership on projects, contribute to setting design quality standards, foster a collaborative design environment, and advance the firm’s design reputation through active participation in project work, team mentorship, and client interactions.
Responsibilities
- Define and exemplify quality standards through design reviews, mentoring, and open discussions.
- Encourage radical thinking and creativity at all levels, leading the studio toward impactful design.
- Prepare design materials that refine and optimize design solutions, including high-quality presentation drawings, models, construction documentation, and supporting narratives from concept to construction, ensuring holistic design continuity.
- Ensure design quality by reviewing projects and engaging teams in firm-wide peer reviews.
- Craft and present compelling design stories to clients and peers.
- Connect with design colleagues firm-wide to enhance collaboration and design quality.
- Stay informed about emerging design applications, tools, visualization methods, and technologies, and champion the development and adoption of innovative methodologies that enhance and streamline the design process.
- Collaborate with Project Architects and Project Managers to organize project work and team structures, fostering strong design leadership across all phases.
- Collaborate with multiple disciplines to ensure rigorous, integrated project delivery.
Requirements
- 12–15 years of professional experience.
- Healthcare, Corporate, or Commercial experience a plus.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture (B.Arch) or Master’s Degree in Architecture (M.Arch) desired.
- Architectural licensure a plus.
- Deep understanding of high-performance building concepts, with LEED Accreditation or ability to obtain within 18 months of hire.
- Strong conceptual design and schematic design skills.
- Experience seeing a project through all phases.
- Strong verbal and graphic communication skills and ability to work with diverse teams of designers.
Skills
- Proficiency in Revit with 3D modeling skills; SketchUp and/or Rhino desired.
- Working knowledge of Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
- Interest and experience in Grasshopper workflows are beneficial.
- Ability to participate in multiple projects and manage deadlines.
Pay
The annual base pay range for this role is anticipated to be between $120,000 and $150,000. Actual compensation for successful candidates will be carefully determined based on skills, qualifications, and experience.
