Senior Architect - Engineer / Application and Database Services

About the role

This job is responsible for defining an architectural vision and solution that supports the strategic outcomes of the Business' Products and Services. Key responsibilities include defining the target operating environment, designing for client resiliency, assisting with solution design, and defining non-functional requirements. The Chief Engineer (CE) / Architect will work with stakeholders and service providers aligned to the Business' strategic objectives, evaluate the impact of strategic design decisions, and contribute to the architecture roadmap.

Responsibilities

• Works across the business, operations and technology to create the solution intent and architectural vision for complex solutions and prioritize functional and non-functional requirements into a technology backlog to enable the technology roadmap and functionality to support evolving capabilities and services
• Contributes to the creation of the architecture roadmap of defined domains (Business, Application, Data, and Technology) in support of the product roadmap and the development of best practices including standardized templates
• Clarifies the architecture, assists with system design to support implementation, and provides solution options to resolve any architectural impediments
• Facilitates solution driven discussions, leads the design of complex architectures, and finds creative solutions through knowledge of domain, practical experiments, and proof of concepts while ensuring architecture is flexible, modular, and adaptable
• Educates team members on the technology practices, standardization strategies, and best practices to create innovative solutions
• Supports the team as needed to select the technology stack required for solutions and helps select preferred technology products
• Performs design and code reviews to ensure all non-functional requirements are sufficiently met (for example, security, performance, maintainability, scalability, usability, and reliability)
• Provides end-to-end technical leadership for complex initiatives, proactively identifying and mitigating risks, resolving architectural challenges, and accelerating delivery outcomes
• Serves as a senior escalation point for critical production and implementation issues, leading cross-functional teams through complex technical challenges when required
• May participate in operational reviews, incident analysis, and strategic planning efforts to provide infrastructure expertise and ensure continuous improvement in platform reliability, performance, and operational excellence

Requirements

• Leadership Skills
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with a proven ability to build strong relationships across business and technology organizations
• 10+ years experience providing end-to-end architecture, design guidance, and governance for large-scale strategic initiatives
• Demonstrated ability to lead teams through complex technical challenges, balancing both tactical execution and long-term strategic objectives
• Skilled at translating product roadmaps, business goals, and technology strategies into actionable architectural solutions and delivery plans
• Experience managing staffing, financial planning, vendor engagement, risk management, compliance, and governance processes; Bank of America experience preferred
• Proven experience leading infrastructure production support organizations, ensuring operational stability, service reliability, and continuous improvement
• Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills across executive, business, and technical teams
• 10+ years experience designing, deploying, and managing highly resilient, scalable, and secure infrastructure platforms
• Proven expertise in architecting highly available network solutions leveraging load balancing, failover mechanisms, and enterprise firewall technologies
• Working knowledge of relational and NoSQL database technologies, including Oracle, MongoDB, CockroachDB, and PostgreSQL
• Extensive experience with middleware and integration platforms, including Apache, JBoss, MuleSoft, Kafka, Liberty, and WebLogic
• Strong understanding of enterprise data networking, connectivity, and distributed systems architecture
• Proven track record leading large-scale enterprise technology initiatives in architecture, engineering, development, and deployment leadership roles
• Experience designing and implementing cloud-native solutions across AWS and Microsoft Azure environments
• Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices, including Terraform-based automation and provisioning
• Advanced experience creating architectural diagrams, solution designs, and technical documentation using Microsoft Visio
