Senior Architect, Data Center Development
About the role
The Data Center Design Team at Fluidstack is responsible for leading the design, development, and execution of 50GW+ of data centers over the next decade. This includes driving the next generation of liquid cooling and electrical distribution systems, developing and scaling first-of-a-kind modular data centers, and influencing behind-the-meter designs and planning for multi-GW campuses.
Responsibilities
- Own the architectural workstream across a multi-site development portfolio from concept through permitting and construction completion.
- Develop and maintain the architectural basis of design, prototype drawing packages, and master specs for the campus portfolio.
- Lead masterplan and campus layout: building positioning, setbacks, service access, security zoning, and phasing across multi-building sites.
- Manage external architects and engineers of record from schematic through IFC, enforcing standards and tracking quality across concurrent projects.
- Lead permitting strategy across jurisdictions and ensure compliance with IBC, IFC, NFPA 75/76/855, state codes, and ADA.
- Author owner-side design standards, prototype specs, or basis of design documents.
- Ensure envelope and life-safety design to FM Global and code standards through field conditions and contractor-driven changes.
Requirements
- You've owned the architectural workstream on data center or mission-critical facilities as an owner's representative or developer, not just as a consultant.
- You've managed external architects and engineers of record through full design lifecycles across concurrent projects.
- You know IBC, IFC, occupancy classification, egress, and fire-rated assembly design well enough to be the authority with AHJs.
- You hold envelope and life-safety design to FM Global and code standards through field conditions and contractor-driven changes.
- Bonus: Licensed Architect.
- Hyperscale data center or large-scale industrial development experience.
- FM Global envelope and roofing submittal process expertise.
- Experience with Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Procore, and ACC.
- LEED AP certification.
Qualifications
- You have a strong background in architecture and engineering, with a focus on data center design and development.
- You have experience managing complex projects and coordinating with multiple stakeholders.
- You have excellent communication and collaboration skills, as well as the ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- You have a passion for creating sustainable and efficient data center solutions that align with Fluidstack's values.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of building codes and regulations, particularly IBC, IFC, and NFPA 75/76/855.
