Senior Applied Chemist
About the role
We are seeking a senior researcher to lead tasks or projects requiring a multi-disciplinary approach. You'll join a hardworking and dedicated team of scientists who collaborate toward fulfilling our sponsors' needs using your educational background. We strive to foster an environment of innovation and idea-generation so that multi-disciplinary perspectives can provide new and exciting avenues to research. As a member of our team, you will work with physicists, engineers, analytical chemists, and biologists to tackle National Defense's most important problems.
Responsibilities
- Propose and conduct research that contributes to our government sponsor's goals.
- Use your skills in organic, analytical, and experimental chemistry to advance science toward the cutting edge in your field.
- Work with a multi-disciplinary team of scientists.
- Propose your own work and explore new technologies using the many resources available to you at APL!
Qualifications
- Have a Ph.D. in chemistry, chemical engineering, chemical biology, or another field relevant to the duties as described above.
- Have 3 or more years post-graduate experience with biomanufacturing and isolation of biomaterials.
- Be highly skilled at research and able to propose new projects.
- Demonstrate the ability to work with other scientists and connect with the broader scientific community through publication, patents, and presentations.
- Able to obtain a Secret level security clearance.
Skills
Intimate knowledge of DOD CBRNE research applications.
Demonstrated proficiency in the development of methods and processes for isolation of biomanufactured products.
Experience with interdisciplinary collaboration, especially with engineers, physicists, or biochemists in other laboratories or institutions.
Demonstrated proficiency in synthesis and detection of antibiotics, toxins, and peptides.

Minimum Rate $105,000 Annually
