Senior Applications Engineer
About the role
We are seeking a Senior Applications Engineer to act as the primary technical anchor for our next-generation DC-DC and multiphase power solutions, directly enabling high-performance computing and automotive tier-1 customer designs. In this role, you will own the hardware evaluation, circuit simulation, and system-level debugging required to turn our cutting-edge power management silicon into robust, real-world customer implementations. You will join an industry leader at a time when Renesas is aggressively scaling its power portfolio to solve the dense, high-current delivery challenges of the AI infrastructure boom.
Responsibilities
- Lead product promotion and design-in activities, including power tree architecture and power delivery system debugging.
- Contribute to the definition of innovative, differentiated products based on technical requirements and market needs.
- Perform schematic capture and PCB layout reviews for both internal evaluation boards and customer designs.
- Develop and execute simulations of power converter circuits and systems for development and resolution of technical issues.
- Author technical documentation, such as application notes and design guidelines, to assist customers with product deployment.
- Provide training on product usage and DC-DC converter fundamentals to Field Application Engineers (FAEs) and customer engineering teams.
- Provide on-site and remote technical support to internal and external teams, conducting root-cause analysis and debugging.
- Conduct competitive analysis and research to support marketing initiatives and strategic activities.
- Develop a comprehensive, system-level understanding of customer applications to inform new product development.
Requirements
- Excellent organizational skills, with a high degree of attention to detail and accuracy.
- Prior experience with power IC, MOSFET, control loop, digital controllers, and multi-phase buck.
- Competence in Python or C; experience with lab equipment automation is a significant benefit.
- Proficiency with lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, electronic loads, and function generators.
- Experience with analog circuit modeling and simulation tools (e.g., SIMPLIS and PSpice).
- Advanced knowledge of DC/DC converter topologies, including buck, boost, buck-boost, charge pump, and intermediate bus converters.
- Experience with schematic capture and PCB design tools such as OrCAD, Allegro, and Cadence.
- Knowledge of Intel SVID/AMD SVI and PMBus/AVSBus power management interfaces is a plus.
- Knowledge of control theory, closed-loop compensation, and stability margin analysis.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Qualifications
BSEE/BSECE with 7+ years of relevant experience, or MSEE (preferred) with 5+ years of experience.
