About the role

Meritas Digital is seeking an experienced, passionate Senior Application Engineer to join our founding team as one of our first ten employees—a foundational role in building a world-class technical consulting firm. You will guide our clients in identifying optimal application solutions, then lead the hands-on design, development, and implementation of elegant, scalable web applications using TypeScript and modern JavaScript frameworks (React or Angular). As a key contributor to our early growth, you’ll shape our technical direction, mentor future hires, and help establish a culture of innovation and excellence.

You’re a seasoned software leader with a passion for crafting high-quality, user-focused web applications that solve real-world problems. You thrive on innovation, take pride in writing clean, reusable code, and are eager to grow into client-facing responsibilities. Your expertise in TypeScript and React or Angular, combined with a strong understanding of modern web development practices, allows you to collaborate with stakeholders to discover their needs, then design and build applications that meet those needs. You’re comfortable diving into existing codebases to improve quality and chart a path forward. You’re excited to apply or deepen your expertise in TypeScript, embrace Agile practices, and value modular, efficient, productized solutions. You’re a humble, hungry, and emotionally intelligent team player (inspired by The Ideal Team Player by Patrick Lencioni). Responsibilities

• Design and develop scalable, responsive web applications using TypeScript and React or Angular.
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code following best practices.
• Collaborate with backend developers, product managers, and clients to define application requirements and integrate with APIs.
• Conduct code reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members.
• Contribute to architectural discussions and system design for long-term scalability.
• Enhance existing applications, improving code quality, performance, and user experience.
• Implement and maintain application security measures and accessibility standards.
• Contribute to backend development (Node.js/TypeScript or C#/.NET) as needed.

Requirements

• Proven ability to write working software.
• Proven ability to write highly maintainable and reusable software.
• Proficiency in TypeScript and React or Angular.
• Strong understanding of modern web development practices and component-based architecture.
• Experience with Git and Agile methodologies, especially Scrum.
• Familiarity with RESTful APIs and integrating with backend services.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (GCP, Azure, AWS).
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Ability to play well with others.

Nice to have

• Experience building applications with Node.js or a strong desire to learn.
• Knowledge of state management libraries (e.g., TanStack Query, Redux, NgRx).
• Familiarity with modern form libraries (e.g., React Hook Form, TanStack Form).
• Knowledge of containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps).
• Experience with backend development (C#/.NET or Node.js).
• Familiarity with testing frameworks (Vitest, Jest, Puppeteer, Playwright, or similar).
• Experience writing and maintaining stories with Storybook.
• Knowledge of linting best practices with ESLint and Prettier.
