About the role

The Senior Application Architect at Stantec is responsible for designing and overseeing the architecture of various software systems. This includes both cloud-based and on-premises applications, ensuring they are scalable, secure, and integrated with existing systems, particularly the Oracle EBS ERP platform.

Responsibilities

  • Design and document the overall application architecture for projects, spanning on-premises systems and cloud platforms.

  • Ensure architectures are scalable, reliable, and meet business requirements, including creating strategies for integrating cloud services with existing systems.

  • Analyse current application portfolios and identify opportunities to improve or modernize them, such as recommending system migrations to cloud or custom application refactoring.

  • Provide expertise in cloud services (e.g., Oracle and/or Azure) and architect cloud-based applications or migrations, ensuring all solutions comply with security and compliance requirements.

  • Serve as the subject matter expert on Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS) within the architecture, ensuring seamless integration with existing systems and advising on customizations.

  • Lead architecture review sessions and code reviews, ensuring solutions align with the defined architecture and coding standards.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders across the organization to understand requirements and translate them into technical architecture designs, ensuring buy-in and understanding.

  • Take part in planning and executing IT projects as the architecture owner, monitoring progress and intervening if refactoring is needed.

  • Stay updated with emerging technologies, tools, and best practices in the industry, evaluating their potential benefits to the organization and driving adoption of new technologies.

Requirements

  • Education: Degree or diploma in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

  • Experience: Extensive experience in software development and architecture, typically 8+ years in software engineering/architecture covering the full software development lifecycle, with at least a couple of years in a senior application design/architecture capacity.

  • Oracle EBS Expertise: Proven experience working with Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS) in an architectural or senior development role, including full lifecycle implementations or major upgrades of Oracle EBS.

  • Cloud Architecture & Services: Strong expertise in cloud computing platforms and services, hands-on experience in designing and deploying applications on Oracle Cloud and/or Microsoft Azure.

  • DevOps & CI/CD & Agile Practices: Embraces a DevSecOps culture, experience with CI/CD pipelines using tools like Terraform, Azure DevOps, or GitLab CI/CD, and knowledge of configuration management and automation tools.

  • Systems Integration: Strong integration skills, experience with web services (RESTful APIs, SOAP), and enterprise application integration patterns.

  • Technical Proficiencies: Proficiency in programming and scripting languages relevant to the enterprise stack, solid skills in SQL and working with relational databases, and comfort with version control systems and build tools.

  • Architecture & Modelling Tools: Use of modelling tools to create architecture diagrams and documentation.

  • Methodologies: Experience with Agile/Scrum development processes and understanding of the DevSecOps culture of collaboration between development and operations.

  • Testing & Quality: Knowledge of automated testing frameworks and performance testing tools.
