About the role
We are seeking a full-time Senior Antenna Engineer at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will provide technical leadership and project planning for complex antenna designs for new Garmin products.
Responsibilities
- Lead antenna design and development efforts for products involving complicated assemblies.
- Design naturally resonant (or with matching network) multiband antennas.
- Integrate switches, tunable capacitors/inductors, and other components with antennas to achieve resonance at multiple frequency bands.
- Analyze test data and reports to determine if proposed antenna designs meet functional and performance specifications.
- Collaborate with Software Engineering to integrate interfaced components and partner with Mechanical Engineers to provide feedback on antenna design needs in mechanical assembly.
- Work with Industrial Design from early stages to exchange ideas and assess antenna implementation feasibility.
- Participate in design reviews, providing comments on antenna design aspects and other engineering areas.
- Evaluate new antenna manufacturing technologies as they apply to existing designs.
- Contribute to project leadership and program planning, including technical input to product development plans and concept documents.
- Make substantial contributions toward determining project goal and objective feasibility.
- Mentor and provide guidance to less experienced Antenna Engineers.
- Conduct advanced technical research on new antenna ideas and enhance Garmin’s Intellectual Property.
- Direct and coordinate the manufacture of prototypes and participate in recruiting activities as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering and a minimum of 5 years of industry experience in antenna design for consumer electronics, or
- Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus on antennas and electromagnetics and a minimum of 3 years of industry experience in antenna design for consumer electronics, or
- Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus on antennas and electromagnetics and 1 year of industry experience, or
- An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 (3.5 or higher preferred).
- Strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to apply design standards and procedures for developing moderately complex antenna designs, including simulations, prototyping, and evaluation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Extensive circuit design experience for consumer or aviation products.
