About the role

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Android Engineer based in the United States. This role offers the opportunity to build high-impact, production-grade Android software at the core of modern retail operations. You will contribute directly to a Kotlin-based point-of-sale terminal application that powers real-world transactions in fast-paced retail environments. Working across the full development lifecycle, you will collaborate closely with product, design, and backend teams to deliver reliable, high-performance features. The environment is highly ownership-driven, where engineers influence architecture, coding standards, and product direction. You will be solving complex challenges involving payments, offline resilience, and hardware-adjacent systems. This is a hands-on engineering role where your work is deployed into production stores and used daily by frontline retail teams.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and deliver robust point-of-sale features using Kotlin for Android-based terminal applications.
  • Own the full software lifecycle including architecture, development, testing, deployment, and ongoing optimization.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
  • Improve application performance, responsiveness, reliability, and user experience across devices and environments.
  • Conduct code reviews and enforce engineering best practices, secure coding standards, and maintainable architecture.
  • Work on payment-related workflows, hardware integrations, and offline-first capabilities where applicable.
  • Stay up to date with Android ecosystem advancements and contribute to continuous engineering improvements.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional Android development experience with strong proficiency in Kotlin.
  • Deep understanding of the Android SDK, Android Studio, and modern application architecture patterns.
  • Experience integrating with RESTful APIs and working with JSON and other data formats.
  • Strong knowledge of version control systems, particularly Git.
  • Solid understanding of Android UI/UX principles, performance optimization, and secure coding practices.
  • Excellent debugging, problem-solving, and communication skills in collaborative engineering environments.
  • Familiarity with AI tools for engineering productivity, with awareness of appropriate usage contexts.

Nice to have

  • Experience with POS systems, payment processing, or retail technology environments.
  • Experience with Jetpack components (Compose, ViewModel, WorkManager, Room, etc.), reactive programming (Flow/Rx), dependency injection, and CI/CD pipelines.

Benefits

  • Competitive base salary range of $160,000-$180,000 depending on experience and qualifications.
  • Equity package with long-term growth potential.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Unlimited flexible paid time off.
  • Opportunity to work on real-world POS systems used in production retail environments.
  • High ownership role with influence over architecture and engineering standards.
  • Exposure to fast-growing, high-scale retail and payments technology.
  • AI-forward engineering culture that encourages modern development workflows.
