About the role

The Senior Assistant, Legal Operations and Litigation Support provides administrative support to the AVP of Legal Operations and the Litigation team. Key responsibilities include managing Synchrony’s supplier lifecycle—onboarding, monitoring, and offboarding—alongside supporting litigation case handling, settlement coordination, tax reporting, and litigation database administration.

Responsibilities

  • Provide supplier risk management support, including managing supplier relationships throughout their lifecycle and partnering with Sourcing, Purchasing, and Supplier Risk Management teams to execute tasks efficiently.
  • Collaborate with Legal supplier owners to meet supplier risk management program requirements, leverage reporting to manage tasks, and maintain required documentation.
  • Handle day-to-day purchasing and invoice inquiries on behalf of suppliers.
  • Support the Litigation team in all aspects of case handling, including lawsuits, regulatory inquiries, arbitration matters, threatened litigation, escalated customer complaints, and complex subpoenas.
  • Manage multiple cases/projects simultaneously and meet demanding deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Assist with litigation case intake and assignment processes.
  • Generate weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports of litigation matters for the litigation team and other functions (operations, compliance, and risk).
  • Prepare year-end settlement reports for 1099 tax reporting and collaborate with the Tax Center of Excellence for tax filings.
  • Coordinate with outside counsel and internal finance teams regarding settlement payments, arbitration fees, litigation settlement contributions, and account adjustments.
  • Reconcile and resolve billing issues with law firm invoices during weekly meetings with the AVP, Legal Operations Manager, and other stakeholders.
  • Assist with quarterly settlement check accruals.
  • Serve as the Litigation Database System Administrator.
  • Maintain litigation records in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Generate Legal Hold notices for Synchrony employees as directed by Litigation and Commercial counsel.
  • Produce weekly Legal Hold reports for Synchrony Information Technology teams.
  • Assist with document production requests for the AVP, Legal Operations, Litigation team, and outside counsel.
  • Support in-person service of process across Synchrony hubs.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Ability to attend the Supplier Manager course and become Supplier Manager certified.
  • Minimum of 3 years of Excel experience, with working knowledge of Word and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to learn new applications (T360 and Exterro) with training to serve as an application administrator.
  • Experience with OneFD or ability to learn ACM, I2R, Debt Manager (DM 10), Content Navigator Production, Coupa, and SAS Viya.
  • Availability to work US time zones (8 AM–5 PM, Monday–Friday) with flexibility to work overtime as needed.

Pay

The salary range for this position is $60,000–$112,000 USD annually, with eligibility for an annual bonus based on individual and company performance. Actual compensation will be determined by work experience, skill level, and knowledge. Salaries are adjusted for markets in CA, NY Metro, and Seattle.

Schedule

This role operates within US time zones (8 AM–5 PM, Monday–Friday) and may require a flexible schedule, including overtime.

Our Way of Working

Synchrony offers flexibility, allowing you to work from home near one of our hubs or from an office. You will be required to commute to your nearest hub (virtual or physical) for in-person activities such as business meetings, training, and culture events. Field Sales and some Commercial roles may have varied location requirements based on partner needs.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be willing to take a drug test, submit to a background investigation, and provide fingerprints as part of the onboarding process.
  • Must satisfy the requirements of Section 19 of the Federal Deposit Insurance Act.
  • New hires (Level 4–7) must complete 9 months of continuous service before being eligible to apply for other roles. Once this requirement is met, associates must have a minimum of 6 months in their current position before applying for non-exempt roles. Employees at level 8 or greater must have at least 18 months in their current position before applying.
  • All internal candidates must meet performance expectations and have manager approval (or manager and HR approval if performance or time-in-position requirements are not met).
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required; Synchrony will not sponsor individuals for employment visas for this role.
