About the Opportunity
The Senior AI Security Engineer is responsible for securing the organization's internal AI systems, tools, and external AI integrations. This role is crucial for ensuring the protection of sensitive student and educator data while enabling the responsible use of AI to improve educational outcomes. The position involves leading security design, governing AI tool adoption, and embedding security practices within evolving AI infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Lead security design for shared AI infrastructure and AI-powered workflows, ensuring data protection at all levels.
- Conduct threat modeling for AI-specific risks beyond traditional application security.
- Design controls for validating, logging, and auditing AI outputs where accuracy and privacy are critical.
- Develop security tools and automated checks to facilitate safe AI adoption by internal teams.
- Manage review processes for external AI tools and services, assessing data handling and privacy risks.
- Establish standards for integrating third-party AI providers covering technical and contractual aspects.
- Define AI security governance policies and align them with overall data protection and compliance.
- Advise leadership on AI security risks and support informed decision-making.
- Collaborate with engineering and product teams to embed security in AI platforms and tooling.
- Work with IT on identity, access, and device controls related to AI systems.
- Participate in the security squad to integrate AI security within the broader security framework.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years in security engineering with hands-on experience securing production systems.
- Direct experience with AI system security, including LLM integrations and tool-using agents.
- Commitment to protecting student data and supporting educational missions.
- Experience evaluating or governing third-party AI tools with attention to privacy and vendor risk.
- Strong knowledge of application and data security practices such as threat modeling and access control.
- Proven ability to create security programs and processes from inception.
- Comfortable navigating emerging AI tools, risks, and best practices.
- Collaborative approach to integrate security without impeding team progress.
Pay Range and Compensation Package
Pay Range: $170,000 to $250,000 USD annually.
Additional compensation includes annual bonuses or commissions, equity awards, and region-specific health and welfare benefits.
